Why does he want it?
I'm getting a new 1080p HDTV and want to attach a computer to it. Perhaps a mac mini, but is there anything better? I'm specifically interested in Blu-Ray or at least something that works well with the 1080p resolution.

You might consider a Tivo. Besides connecting to your TV and providing a nice way to record cable (including HD) it can connect to an existing computer you have on your network and pull over images, audio and video (can pull from a Mac or a PC).
