Campaign Description

I am working with a group called the Treasure Beach Women'sgroup on south coast Jamaica.and also raising funds for BREDS otherwise known as the treasure beach foundation charity.
MY MAIN GOALS ARE:
1)TO SEND FISHERMEN OUT WITH TO SEA WITH BASIC SAFTEY EQUIPMENT WHICH IS A VHF RADIO AND A FUNCTIONING ANTENNA AND LIFEJACKETS.there have been many deaths in the area and another 4 men went missing just last week. This is the areas only source of income and they are risking their lives for the money, going out in handmade boats over 25 miles out to sea and many not returning. Most if not all with no saftey equipment at all.
2)Provide an arts and crafts camp for the children in the community where I will be staying for part of my trip.I am working alongside the treasure beach womens group to make this happen and they have kindly arranged that I have use of their hall on the 20th december.
I am organising a children's christmas event and hopefully if donations come -in ..a much needed school supply trip.
There will be crafts, presents dancing, singing, competitions, tournaments, lot's of fun events for the children and making sure these children know God loves them and people care about them.
This is a very remote area in a small fishing village of Jamaica.(off the beaten track). This is a very worthy cause. Please join my group and see my actual campaign to learn more about this event.Any question's at all please don't hesitate to ask.I am also involved and interested in charity events worldwide and will be playing a part in a charity event for christies cancer research this weekend. Please check the campaign wall for daily updates.I am also songwriting and hopefully getting a cd together to give away as a promo tool to collect some donations too!anyone who is educated in digital media please get in touch !!..I am struggling a bit in this department!
This is also a recuperation holiday for my father who has just survived a major cancer operation and it is our chance to give back and also learn from the people of jamaica and the culture.
It is an exciting project that I hope will grow.I do not need to beg anything from anybody for this trip. Those that care for others will shine through and make this trip possible.PLEASE NOTE ,my trip is paid for and all my expenses, the idea of this campaign is that 100 percent donated on this page goes straight to these children.
Please check the campaign wall and click "see all "on the recent news section to keep upto date on progress.thankyou to all those who were there from the start and thankyou to those of you who will continue to contribute to this campaign in one way or anotherxxxxx
here is a link to the area where we will be holding this event and to give you a better feel of the place

the total target goal for the fishermens safety equipment project came to a total of:
going on an approx of 40 deep sea fishing boats.
one vhf radio on each boat costing 120usd each-approx£60 sterling
=4200 usd approx£2100 sterling.

plus 4 lifejackets per boat costing approx 50 usd each approx £25 sterling=8000 usd approx £4000 sterling.

we have had fantastic news this morning that us aid are donating 30 of the 40 needed radios so that reduces the amount needed dramatically.
we really really need to concentrate on the lifejackets now ,people please continue to donate to the breds account information i gave you earlier on ,on this page, hopefully we will get some assistance from a charity or organisation towards the cost of the lifejackets.
it is only 200 usd approx £100 to provide a boats crew with lifejackets.
these men are risking their lives every single day by going out to sea without them.It is a small amount to us but a big amount to them.
please donate .

we only have 83 supporters here but over 300 in the group-please help me explain to people about installing this app!!

Sheryl Walton wroteat 8:46am on July 6

please try to explain to your friends how to install this application-many seem to think they have to donate to join this group and install it but you don't have to donate if you don't wish to.installing the app just means it will show on your profile as a campaign you support giving my campaign more visibilty which i really need.Somebody who has a lot of money may see it and be able to help me progress with the project.
hopefully we will get some fresh donations...remember every penny helps...don't think it doesn't if you can only afford a small amount as a small amount to one person all adds up if we all pull together. If anybody has any other ideas of how I can raise cash for this project ,please put some ideas on this wall!!we are well below target and time is running slowly out!remember this project whatever it ends up being!!!is being held on the 20th december this year.

After speaking to some of the parents of the children concerned, who were to attend my event they have expressed concern over so much money being spent totally on a party which although a lot of fun, lasts only a few hours and only a short distance away from where i was to hold my event on the 20th december there is another very similar event to what i was planning but on a larger scale as they already have fundraisers and volunteers established!(wish i knew earlier!)
Anyway the parents and members of groups in that area have politely suggested and requested that some of the money be spent on something which will last the children a very long time and they all agreed that the most important thing the children needi s educational material and supplies.
Schooling is not free in jamaica and pay rates are ridiculously low-meaning only approx 1 in 5 children even go to school, worse still a lot of school are not government funded and rely solely on donations.!
A group has kindly donated some computers to a school in the area and they have set up a little computer lab so now they really need educational software to keep them upto date with the rest of the world!
ie mathematics,science,english etc.
As all parents were in agreement this is what would benefit the children i am definately going to use a large some of the amount donated up to now on educational materials. It is a gift that will last longer than a day and will continue to benefit children for quite a few years i imagine.I have contacted PC.WORLD and they have some really good educational discs there and I am going to purchase a large bundle tomorrow.I will post the pics when i get home!
The parents suggested that perhaps i could do the party on a smaller scale ie a movie premiere on a large projector screen in the community hall and then a disco with treats and spend the cash left over on items the children really need.I feel this is sensible given the fact that these children will already be getting a big xmas party 4 days later....somebody beat me to the idea!I could still have done the party in a different parish but I had promised the funds to that community so I will ensure I keep my promise.
The educational software idea is excellent for them as they really need it ,it is also excellent for me as it is lightweight,i can take it there personally with no extra shipping costs and it will fit in my luggage!and i can buy it locally. Why did we not have that idea??I will keep you updated on anything else I am purchasing. These cds are my first purchase btw.
