Band Bio: Trypod is born when all of its three members end their respective relationship with their former bands. These boys knew each other, and knew they could work together, because of different past projects they’d had together. Once the meeting is successful and the decision is made, Trypod’s machinery starts to function, creating a large array of songs in less than a year.
Finally, after a year of formation, 12 songs are selected, creating Trypod’s first CD. All the songs are in English, because it was considered that music is a way of communicating emotions, and English is the biggest channel to do so. Music speaks for itself, it’s not necessary to sing in a certain language, it’s only a matter of preference (Take Rammstein, for example).
You can call it a demo, a CD an LP, but what you can’t change is the fact that with a budget of 600 US dollars, these boys have created a nice recording.
Trypod’s philosophy is to reach as many ears and listeners as possible, so it’s material is downloadable for free in mp3 format. The final goal of the band is to enjoy playing its live shows, no matter where, how or when, hoping to have an impact outside Guatemalan borders, and continue this trip as far as we are allowed.
Trypod is now working on material for a new CD, but it’s interesting to know how they did the songs for the first CD, Reflection.
TRYPOD, started working on its own material right away from the first rehearsal. The first song composed as TRYPOD was Honey, an infidelity themed song, which its primitive idea was created by Ricardo (Vocals/Guitars) before Trypod was born, as well as for many other of the songs. Luis and Kimba also had worked together in some ideas for songs like One Minute With Myself, My Perfect Balance, Capturing Moments, etc. For this CD, called Reflection, TRYPOD opted for collaboration in all the songs. One member would bring a basic idea to the rehearsal, and they would jam around it, creating a basic structure.
After the structure was created the details were assembled with everyone’s input. Music, as just said, was crafted between its 3 members.
The system used was very curious. Each member brought an idea to a rehearsal. Once this idea was done, sometimes in one rehearsal, sometimes in 3 or 5, it would be the other member’s turn. Music Ideas were varied, and each member contributed a lot in each song. Vocal melodies, were in a 95% conceived by Ricardo Roquer, with the exception of My Perfect Balance, which the chorus melody was already worked out by Luis. The lyrics were that way too, but with much help in concepts and some excerpts by Luis and Omar. As in Guatemala there is really no support to music, Trypod looks to give an extra in each show they perform. Sometimes wearing disguises, sometimes using fireworks, or inviting known local musicians to jam with them in some songs.
This concept of jamming is being extended and used in a series of monthly shows hosted by Trypod, called MATACANGREJO GIGS (which can be roughly translated as “killingthecrab Gigs”, because of a local joke, which says that you can identify if Crabs in a bucket are from Guatemala, when you see them pulling each other down when they try to get out). The idea behind these shows is to eliminate and eradicate, envy, divisionism and prejudice from people, in and out the rock movement. To generate respect for every style of music created and performed, and to have people learn to tolerate other bands, which maybe are not from the same genre they like, but are as good as well. So TRYPOD keeps holding on, and moving forward, opening its own path in Guatemala, a country with no exposure, radios or any significant media related to music, much less Rock Music, to seek for its big dream “To reach people from all over the world, and make people relate and feel identified with the music!”.
