Band Bio: “This is as good as it gets here.” states Cboogie on a telephone interview with Spitkicker Inc. for their bi-monthly Spitmag. “We’re commercial enough to get people to listen and groove, yet we speak on everyday issues with that Left Field sound that doesn’t sound like the masses that’s flooding the radio; the movement is here”…
Left Field Rhythms is a laid back union of melodic hip-hop and authentic soul. This three member mosaic features lyrical front men: C- Boogie, Justice and Ever Wonder. The group’s emcees derive their influences from the golden age of hip-hop including A Tribe Called Quest, KRS One and Big Daddy Kane.
Cboogie formed the group after he decided to put his own solo project on hold. The members of L.F.R. are based in Bridgeport, the largest city in Connecticut, known to many as the “Park City”. Like other urban centers in Connecticut, Bridgeport fared less well during the deindustrialization of the United States in the 1970s and 1980s. Unemployment rose, crime soared, and the city became known for a large drug problem and for having an exploding AIDS rate. Many former-industrial sites within the city were discovered to be heavily polluted, leaving the city with extensive environmental costs and damage. Other sites were simply abandoned and left to burn down, leaving some areas of the city resembling ghost towns.
And it is that specific atmosphere that has driven L.F.R.’s creativity. In 2007 the group has been earnestly working on their debut album, L.F.R. Presents: Random Tangents; the People’s Music. L.F.R. consistently focuses on reaching out to real people by exploring a range of everyday experiences. The album will appeal to the single parent, the starving artist, the family man, frustrated love seekers, and most importantly hip-hop loyalists bored with lyrics about cars, rims and champagne.
“Our whole goal was to come together and be real with people who’ve might have been through the same struggles we have” states Justice. Songs like TGIF paints a picture of life trials that engulf single parents daily. The old cliché of spending quality time with that special someone is playfully expressed through the catchy lyrics of After Dark, while Welcome To Our World depicts the complexities of staying together as a breakthrough group.
With the album almost completed, L.F.R. has been busy building up their fan base & performing, opening for legendary acts like Mary J Blige, Jaguar Wright, John Legend and Lady Bug Mecca.
“Our goal is to let the world vibe to creative and innovative sounds and rhythms that move the souls of music lovers worldwide.” - L.F.R.
