Band Bio: Formed in 2007 after drummer Bill Carbone left Toussaint and the China Band for graduate studies in Ethnomusicology at Wesleyan University, Buru Style has performed both countless late-night instrumental nyabinghi shows and served as the backing group for great singers like Toussaint Liberator, Lady Lee, Ajani, Dion Knibb, Ras Coley and others.
Most of the music is composed by Carbone, who mixes his funk and soul-jazz tastes up with a sizable serving of reggae and dub. Whether performing instrumentally or behind Toussaint Liberator or other singers, the band is always air-tight and committed to a group sound more than individual glory. The songs roll forward seamlessly, the dubs pound and pulsate, the vibes are always high.
