Prosper
Prosper is the largest person-to-person lending marketplace in the U.S. with over 760,000 members and $160,000,000 in loans!
The way Prosper works is intuitive to people who have used eBay. Instead of listing and bidding on items, people list and bid on loans using Prosper's online auction platform. People who want to borrow between $1,000 and $25,000 may post a loan request or "listing" on the Prosper website, and set the maximum rate they are willing to pay a lender. Listings also display the borrower's credit grade and credit report data, as well as borrowers' personal stories and group affiliations.
When the auction begins, people, registered as Prosper "Lenders" can browse among available listings, and competitively bid in increments of $50 to $25,000 on loan listings they select with each Lender setting the minimum interest rate they are willing to earn. Once the auction ends, Prosper takes the bids with the lowest rates and combines them into one simple loan to the borrower, so the borrower gets the benefit of a potentially lower interest rate as a result of the bidding.
Prosper handles all on-going loan administration tasks including loan repayment and collections on behalf of the matched borrowers and Lenders.

It's free to use this Facebook appliction, but there are some fees for using Prosper's marketplace.
We charge borrowers a 1-3% loan origination fee, and we charge Lenders a servicing fee at an annual rate of 1% which gets deducted from each Lender's loan payments.

What does Prosper on Facebook do?
This application creates a bridge between Facebook and the Prosper marketplace.
Peer-to-peer lending is all about people like you. By integrating Prosper with your social graph you can make the marketplace even better and social lending more social.
At the same time, this application brings the existing Prosper marketplace to Facebook. It allows us to offer new features by sharing your Prosper activity with your network:
- A friend in need... Letting your friends know about your loan request could help you get money faster and at a better rate.
- A friend indeed... Easily find out which of your friends are looking for some extra cash. You can help them reach their financial goal by bidding as little as $50 toward their loan request. Or give them a written endorsement so that other people will be more willing to help them, too.
- Investment tracking... Knowing what loan listings your friends are bidding on can make it easier to spot a good listing. If your friends consider you a savvy investor or you think they might benefit from your investment expertise, why not let them track your bidding?

How can I ensure only my friends can view my Prosper activity?
Any one who can view your profile can see your mini-feed and what you've been doing. Facebook's default settings allow all of your networks, including people that you may not know, to access this information.
The easiest way to change this is to restrict access to your profile:
- Go to your Privacy Settings for your Profile page
- Choose an appropriate access level such as "Only my friends"
- Click the "Save" button at the bottom of the page to record your changes
Why should I hide the time when stories were published in my Mini-Feed?
|
Prosper provides near-real-time information to Facebook which in turn gets converted to stories. With the default settings left alone, time stamps published along side your stories may make it possible to identify your specific bid against a listing and reveal your Prosper screen name. To protected your anonymity, we recommend that time stamps be turned off. To hide the time when stories were published in your Mini-Feed: |

Troubleshooting
Why don't Prosper stories show up in my news or mini- feeds?
There are several reasons why Prosper news stories might not be showing up in your feeds as you expect. Take a look at the following list to help troubleshoot the issue:
- Add this application. Prosper stories are only published while you are a user of this Facebook application.
- Link your Prosper & Facebook accounts. You must be a registered Prosper user and your accounts must be linked. Otherwise, we won't know who you are, or who to tell, on Facebook about your Prosper activity.
- Verify your settings. They determine which types of stories are shared with your friends. Only the story types you select will be published.
- Are you actively using Prosper? Unless you are actively bidding, requesting a loan, or adding listings to your watch list there won't be any news to share with your friends.
- Enable the News & Mini- Feeds for this application. If feeds have been disabled Prosper can't publish any stories in your feeds.
- You eat too much. Applications are limited in how many stories they can publish for each user in a rolling 48-hour window. Currently, applications are limited to 10 stories to prevent over-feeding.
- Because Facebook said so. Facebook ultimately controls what makes it into the feed. The story may or may not show up in the user's friends' News Feeds, depending on the number and quality of competing stories.
