Latest ethics complaints should be 'a wake-up call,' Palin says Read original post

(CNN) – The two new ethics complaints filed against Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin in the past week should be ‘a wake-up call,’ the former Republican vice presidential candidate says. In a statement released late Friday night, Palin’s office announced that two more ethics complaints had been filed against the governor in the week since she made [...]

Hey CNN, why don't you try explaining what the ethics complaints are, instead of just repeating Gov. Palin's talking points? You are doing a disservice to your readers by not keeping them informed. No one cares about the drama!

Well, one of them had substance -- Palin had to pay the state back almost $8500 for the trips she took her props, I mean kids, on. Several of the other resolutions were whitewashes. The per diem she has taken is pretty chintzy. The Wasilla hillbillies need as much dough as they can get, and when the state coffers began to dry up they simply moved on to new ways to get money. Good riddance, Sarah. You coarsened the political discourse and you are now reaping what you have sown.

With so many ethics complaints (though many have been resolved), I have to assume there must be some other reason than vindictive opponents.

It's been well and factually established that she received a per diem for living in her own home instead of the mansion. She couldn't care less about taxpayer expense.

This woman is a train wreck. I feel sorry for her supporters who can't see the amazing "double-speak" that happens whenever she opens her mouth. Remember the movie "A Face in the Crowd"? Fast forward to current times and soon to be ex-Gov. Palin.

The law needs to be changed in this country - for all filings... The LOSER pays against lawsuits, ethics complaints, etc... We would get rid of a huge chunk of these nuisance complaints. Either that - or just haul these liberals off and drown them in a barrerl like rats. Our States are going through financial crisis, and they are wasting tax payers money with THIS??

There is movement to destroy this woman and it is really a shame that people have nothing more to do than waste the AK taxpayer's money. Venture to say that all of this is politically motivated and it is an embarrassment that politics has resorted to this. The liberal agenda is striking below the belt and a blow to the women's movement. Say what you want but I have spent 30 years fighting machines that have nothing more than destroying the character and personal lives of hard working women. It amazes me that it is acceptable for some politicians to not be targeted and others to be continually assulted. A couple of months back a doll company wanted to make dolls in the likeness of Obama's daughters and there was a huge backlash about it. Months later unflattering things are said about an ex vice presidental canididates daughter and pictures are photoshopped with her handicapped son and people claim that she cannot handle the heat. There is a double standard here that is WRONG>

The law needs to be changed so that if someone files against another and the charges are found to be false, the one that made the false allegations should be required to pay all the legal fees, including those of the courts and the defense.

Oh, you mean like the group that had Paula Jones file her lawsuit the week the statute of limitations was to run out? She is right - lawsuits are a distraction - and that one (Jones') took the U.S. Congress months to straighten out, including Impeachment Trial, with salvating Republicans and Admiral Rheinquist centerstage. But, then again, I didn't hear any Republicans lamenting the loss of decency when they grilled Bill for his private affair(s), so let's not start now.

I think all the money spent on the obvious extortion attempts should be recouped from the complainers and have these people permanently barred from any future actions unless approved by a judge.

You don't ask and then get respect - you earn it. Palin has been a slime slinger since McCain put her on stage. She is the culprit of "un-civil and dis-respectful dialogue", not the victim of it. Typical of her political affiliation where they claim to be the victim when they are the source.

Can't CNN report any actual NEWS! This is just a Palin press release. What CNN should of done is interview those that filed the complaints. i.e. Given them a chance to back up if the filling is legit or not. This way the public can determine if the people doing the fillings are the jerks or not (i.e. just doing this for political reasons). SO while I believe Palin has little to no merit as a leader, I have to take her side on this one thanks to the bogus job CNN does as a news service.

Palin always, always takes the bait. She has to go tit for tat with "the media", David Letterman, McCain's ex-staffers, the endless people filing ethics complaints, and on and on. If you're a serious person, you shrug off that stuff and talk about serious things -- not bleat on endlessly about how aggrieved you are and how picked-on you are. Maybe she sounds so petty because, deep down, she is petty.

In this country, you are guilty until proven innocent. Until that happens, regardless of Palin or her lawyer's opinion of these charges, it is DUE PROCESS for those who feel as if they have a legitimate complaint. And the courts will be the final deciders of that. Sounds as if Palin and her lawyer's are BASHING the American Judicial system that has made our country equal for all.

Why didn't the report name the charges filed against Palin? The answer is CNN doesn't care how frivolus they are, the headline is what there after. I don't find Palin to be the best candidate but the more they go after her with the help of the liberal MSM the more I will root for her to put them all to shame. She scares the hell out of the Elite Political Class including Republicans. Thats why she is ridiculed by them. Nov 2010 can't come fast enough.

Sarah Palin has the guts to say "I hope this will be a wake-up call – to legislators, to commentators and to citizens generally – that we need a much more civil and respectful dialogue that focuses on the best interests of the state, rather than the petty resentments of a few.” You're the one who needs the wake up call, babe. How many ethics complaints is this now? You took state money and used it for personal gain, you tried to have your brother in law fired, you used you handicapped child when it was to your benefit and tried to use it against others who criticized you. You have no morals or ethics. We are glad you resigned as governor, and hope to never see you attempt to run for political office ever again.

I think there should be an easy way to handle this. Hire a taxpayer funded group that handles ethics complaints, with a contract that can't be broken. Let them handle all ethics investigations. Since the contract can't be broken or changed, state officials can't really influence it (and it would be a private entity, so couldn't even threaten firing members of it)... but at the same time, if people want to file frivolous ethics complaints, this group keeps track of the amount of time and effort, and bills the person who files it. I mean come on, what proof does whoever filed the "paid interview" complaint have?

Yes, a wake up call it is...FOR HER. Her popularity has plummeting by more than 30 points in a matter of months in Alaska. Even in her own state she is viewed as divisive and polarizing. When she campaigned for office she said to the voters: "Hold Me Accountable!" I guess they are. People don't attack people who they trust and respect. Wake Up Sarah!

It is apparent that we need legal reform as much, or more, than health care reform. Idiots can keep filing these ethics complaints, with or without merit, and continue to cost the Palins and the state of Alaska time and money. Why are these liberals so scared of Sarah Palin??? Does integrity really upset you this badly? If you really want valid ethics complaints, take a good look at the Messiah and there will be lots of meat left on the bones there.

I guess liberals are having a hard time letting go of the fact that Sarah Palin won't be around anymore to smear and hate on. Considering that they call themselves "progressive", isn't it ironic that liberals are so quick to name-call like schoolyard children when you don't share their views? Wake up call for Sarah Palin! Wake up call for Sarah Palin! Wake up, Sarah! You quit and called it a big step forward. You have yet to show any grasp whatsoever of policy or political theory. You say the most idiotic and bizarre things to the public and the press. Your short career was an ethics disaster and was so even before McCain made you famous. You have absolutely no ideas whatsoever, much less any vision for America. Wake up, Sarah! It's all just an ego fantasy! You have no qualifications whatsoever for high public office. Your behavior is erratic and irrational and buffoonish. Wake up, Sarah! You have become the Anna Nicole Smith of politics: devoid of talent, phoney as can be, and only in it for your own personal gain. Wake up, Sarah! Quitting was political suicide. Only yokels and zealots will continue to follow your joke of a path.
