Burris not running for a full Senate term

Well that's a shame - he fits in so well with the rest of the crooks in dc. I thought him and frankenstein could become best buds.

You got to love all the dems who were faux outraged at the Burris appointment, but not so much that they refused to seat him. They worked with Bobby Rush and asked him to play the race card so that they had an easy out. After all, you want a majority in the house, whether you gain it on principal or whether you get it with slime all over your body.

I watched Ann Coulter describe this situation. Man, she makes me laugh. Somehow, in her twisted mind, anything Democratic is akin to satan. She seems to think, like her own bunch, that Democrats can't think. Sorry Annie, dear, we liberals think he's a fool. Unlike your bunch, we recognize a fool, no matter what party he or she is in. The best thing Burris could do is quit. Of course, he won't do that. No one in their right mind would quit in the middle of a term, would they. No one with any sense or brains would quit in the middle of a term. Nope. Only a complete idiot would quit in the middle of a term.

Why should he run he now gets a pay check for the rest of his life with health care?

Burris is an embarrassment, but not nearly as much as the DNC for allowing him to be seated at all.

Senator Burris will not have been in the Senate long enough to qualify for a pension. He will only get the pay of a Senator for the period of time he actually serves in the Senate. Burris is just another useless and corrupt politician from Chicago. Maybe Obama will follow and go live with Bush, that way we don't have to hear from either of the fools.

It's a sound decision by Burris. And for those pushing Madigan - she wasn't qualified for the AG job she got because of a murderous lack of experience. Just because she's the daughter of the State Majority Leader doesn't make her qualified, and I'm a former Illinois Democrat who is being very candid on this! And to Jenny in ME: You know nothing of Burris' past; he's a class act and been a great public servant. He got caught up in a situation he could never survive.

Congress should make a law that says if your governor has been indicted, he can't pick a Senator. Blago and Burris are clowns and Burris should never have had the opportunity to darken the door of the Senate. He was a little boy, a jokester, trying to walk in Barack Obama's shoes (which didn't work). It was shameful. This man knows he didn't have a chance in hellNO for re-election. He slithered in the Senate, got the pension, and now he's going to slither out. As an African American I'm ashamed of him. And btw, he played the race card, big time. The Senators should have barred the door, not because of race, but because of ETHICS. I hope Blago goes to jail for a long, long time and I hope Burris is demonized for the rest of his pathetic life. And if I were the cemetery, I'd make him pay through the nose to put Senator on his stupid tombstone.

Yes: He'll get a Senate pension. No: This has nothing to do with the "good of the party" or the good of anything. This guy is a crook and a narcissist of the first order--something very very bad must be out there for him not to run. But we will never find out what it might be cuz we're in Illinois with its ancient tradition of corruption (except Abe). UGH!

Burris should have realized that given the way he got started, with the Dems literally forced to accept him or create another stink on top of the Blago "affair", it would be a miracle to get nominated for 2010. But he really blew it by telling a half-truth and not giving the full answer, that Blago's brother requested the quid pro quo. That sealed his legacy as just another sleazy pol. I think Burris is a better man than that, but ambition got the better of his judgment. On the other hand, both Blagos should rot in hell.

As a perpetually slobbering lib, I would have voted for Burris in 2010. After all, we owe it to him as a black guy to elect him to office, no matter how shady he is. A crowd was urging Burris to "run". Where? As far away from Illinois as possible, I would think!

Burris is a crook, just like the rest of the Chicago political machine. The publicity surrounding his appointment sank any chance of winning the seat in a real election.

I don't like Burris, but at least he was smart enough to smell the coffee and realize he was dragging the Dems in IL down due to his suspect appointment and ethics. It seems that a lot of GOP governors and congressman (i.e. Sanford, Ensign....) can't even get THAT far! These guys should get a clue and step down if they care at ALL about the GOP.....otherwise they are just more selfish career-oriented heck with the people congressmen we have had enough of.

Translation: he is far to tainted with Blagoyavich to ever be a contender when the election rolls around.

I am a Republican and have been my entire life, but I just don't get the appeal of Sarah Palin. Yeah, she's somewhat hot when compared, say, to Nancy Pelosi but there's not much upstairs to recommend. I have come to the realization that the party is so desperate that they'd take anything with a pulse, is somewhat attractive and can raise the hue and cry. Given that, I shall encourage my Labrador retriever to enter the race.

He can put "US Senator" in his biography and enjoy fat pension and retirement. But how did he get that position is always a contraversial.

I don't know if this guy would make, or is a good senator or not. But given the circumstances I think he would have one heck of a fight to get reelected, and probably lose in the end. Wise choice in my opinion.

Does anyone know if he'll be eligible for a Senate pension, even though he only served a short time? That whole system often seems like a scam to me. What about it, CNN?

Burris should be happy...he can still engrave the words "United States Senator" on his fancy tombstone where it will remian for years for all to see...wasn't that his main goal in the first place?

I couldn't be happier about his decision. I was so afraid we would have to put up with him during the campaign. Roland Burris is not capable nor does he have the character to be deserving of representing the State of Illinois. Any time you have someone who will do "anything" to get what he wants, he is not to be trusted. He couldn't possibly win, but he is saving us from saying No. He also does not deserve that pension. He accomplished nothing except to take up a seat he didn't deserve.
