FAQ - Ownership of Gadgets and Users
Do I continue to own the gadget and application?

Yes, of course you retain full rights to your gadget. Your Facebook app is registered in your own name, so OpenSocket never takes any form of ownership over that — you are simply asking OpenSocket to present the content for you. And you can revoke that arrangement at any time.

Who owns the users?

Again, you own the app in Facebook's eyes, so the users of the app are always associated with you.

Can I take users and their data out of OpenSocket?

If you are able to develop a native Facebook version of your gadget in the future, then taking users away from your OpenSocket version will be as simple as changing the callback URL as registered with Facebook (from OpenSocket's servers to yours).

You will also want access to the list of registered user ids as well as any persistence data stored for them. It is our policy that the person who registered the app with us should always be able to obtain that data. For the time being, you will need to contact us directly, but we will provide direct download links in the near future.

Do my users need to install your OpenSocket app?

No, this OpenSocket app is just a control panel for gadget authors to register their gadgets. The actual app that your users run will be completely separate, and they do not need to use this control panel.

Can I view usage analytics for my app?

Facebook provide detailed usage statistics for any application that you create, including those operated through OpenSocket. In addition, Google Analytics can be incorporated directly into your gadget, and this will record usage wherever your gadget is run.

At some point, we would like to provide further information about who is using your app, and how. Send us suggestions for the types of statistics that you feel are not provided completely by Facebook and/or Google Analytics (or whatever similar service you might use).
