My Online Social Network - Phase 1
Welcome to the barebones application for downloading your social network data, designed by Bernie Hogan, Research Fellow at the Oxford Internet Institute. This application simply queries the Facebook API for the list of your friends, and their ties to each other. It then spits this data out in a number of formats useful for standard social network analysis.
At the moment, I am implementing UCInet and GUESS. Of these, GUESS contains the most data (such as attribute data of the nodes), UCInet simply includes the network structures. To get started simply click on the link to the appropriate output format.

ANNOUNCEMENT!
This is the end of the line for phase one. Phase two is in rapid development. Click here to learn more. It is tentatively scheduled for release in January of 2010. Beta versions will be available in October 2009.Some disclaimers and context:
- This simply queries the data and spits it out. The data is only stored for the program to work, as per the developer terms of use, (especially) Section 2.A.6. What you do with your data is your own choice. The data stored on the server is deleted regularly, and you can delete the file yourself after download if you like (instructions on the next page).
- This software is considered pilot software for academic research.
- Questions, comments and queries can be directed to me at bernie.hogan@oii.ox.ac.uk
- If this application is not working for you, please let me know. This is being provided to the social network analysis community as testing software, not data collection software, so please help about and provide any feedback.
- Some of the best feedback is any screenshots of work you have done with the data collected herein. For example, you may find a copy of my network visualized and analyzed in the following paper (and you have my apologies for the awful abstract, it will be fixed): A Comparison of On and Offline Networks using the Facebook API .
