We currently have an excellent opportunity in our Global Operations Center in Wheeling, WV for a Network Engineer II.

The Network Engineer II is a non-exempt position that with minimal supervision will provide assistance, technical support and administration in the areas of servers, storage, connectivity and applications. This position will work with both Orrick's Systems group and Network group.

The Network Engineer’s role is to ensure the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the in-house information systems and networks that support Orrick's core organizational functions. This is achieved by monitoring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all servers, software, hardware, systems, storage and associated operating systems. The Network Engineer will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve issues in order to maximize the benefit of IT systems investments.


Responsibilities:

• Perform installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of servers, storage, applications and peripheral devices.
• Manage servers and their associated operating systems, patches and software.
• Gauge the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems; develop and implement strategies for improving or further leveraging these systems.
• Ensure system connectivity of all servers, shared software, groupware, and other applications.
• Create and maintain documentation as it relates to system configuration, mapping, processes, and service records.
• Serve as an escalation point for server, storage and application issues; provide timely response to escalations.
• Plan and implement server upgrades, maintenance fixes, and vendor-supplied patches.
• Work with other Network and Systems Engineers to recommend and execute modifications to server environment in order to improve efficiency, reliability, and performance.
• Collaborate with other engineers to assess near and long-term server/storage capacity needs.
• Collaborate with engineering staff to ensure smooth and reliable operation of software and systems for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
• Work with team members, decision makers, and stakeholders to define business requirements and systems goals, and to identify and resolve business systems issues.
• Work as part of a team on the design and review of new server systems, applications, and hardware.
• Coordinate and participate in key process improvements as they relate to the client/server environment.
• Coordinate and collaborate with network engineering, business application, and other application owners to ensure availability, reliability, and scalability of corporate servers to meet business demands.
• Conduct research on servers and network products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the industry.


Qualifications:
• Seven plus years experience in the areas of Network Operations. This can include a combination of System/Server/Storage Administration (servers, SANs, AD, Exchange) and Network Administration (LAN, WAN, routing and switching).
• Proficiency with Windows Server 2000/2003/2008 server operating systems and utilities is required.
• Skill with Web Servers (IIS) and FTP servers is necessary.
• Experience with WINS, DNS and DHCP in a corporate environment is required.
• Skills with both HP and Dell servers.
• Some experience with UNIX/Linux is necessary.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory 2003/2008 and Exchange 2003/2007.
• Some knowledge of virtualization including VMWare is required.
• General proficiency with Windows XP/Vista desktop and MS Office 2003/2007 suite of products is required.
• Skill managing EMC and NetApp SANs and HP storage is preferred.
• Knowledge of server monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
• Experience with Citrix and traditional VPNs is a plus.
• Knowledge of content and proxy devices including Microsoft ISA and Bluecoat.
• Skill with Symantec BackupExec and/or EMC Avamar backups systems.
• Experience with Symantec eVault (email archiving).
• Microsoft SMS, WSUS or SCCM.
• Knowledge of Cisco devices; VPN concentrators, Cisco PIX/ASA, switches (Layer 2 and 3), routers and routing protocols such as BGP.
• Knowledge of PBXs, Voice Mail systems, ACDs
• Experience with Symantec Antivirus.
• Proficiency with IP Video, Video Conferencing and On Demand Rich Media Communications
• IP Telephony (VOIP) and video communications design and troubleshooting.
• Proficiency with firewalls, intrusion prevention/detection and other security measures.
