Basically, this is a handmade device that is placed between your amp/combo head and the speaker(s) and allows for the output to be redirected to headphones. It also serves as a dummy load for amps up to 50W, meaning you can "turn off" the speaker output and just play through your headphones or the built-in line-out. (I especially used the line-out to record from tube amps that, for example, don't have a headphone OR line-out jack.)
