Dear Thyroid (http://dearthyroid.org), is a unique brand of thyroid disease support whose focus is on encouraging our extraordinary, brave, irreverent, humorous, genuine and honest community to write letters to and from their thyroids in the form of thyroid-rants (Thyrants), thyroid paragraphs (Thygraphs), and thyroid haikus (Thyku’s), among other literary things. We feature a humor and a nutrition column, written by the Founder and Co-Editor of the site, respectively. Similarly, we offer other multi-media avenues for interaction, such as our monthly themed Flickr Photo Pool, and a twice-monthly podcast called “Tales from Thyietnam” in which we interview people who have an understanding of thyroid disease or chronic illness. We also run contests on a monthly and/or twice-monthly basis.

We are seeking an intern who can donate 10-12 hours of their valuable time to Dear Thyroid’s continued growth and success. Ideally, this candidate is passionate about thyroid diseases, thyroid cancers, chronic illness, writing, and/or interested in social marketing. Ideally, we’re seeking someone who enjoys interacting with others online and is a good conversation starter and builder and is able to engage individuals via Twitter and Facebook. Our community is very tight-knit and warm, and therefore, we would also need them to be understanding to the fact that the people they’re interacting with online all have chronic illnesses, which can be a sensitive, personal, and hot topic. Because this internship will be online, you will be telecommuting and therefore can be located outside of LA.

Daily, after our posts go live each M-F morning, this fabulous individual will use the Dear Thyroid Twitter/Facebook to promote each letter to link and engage our end-users in a conversation related to the letter, as well as growing our end-user base.
