| Description: | Position ConnCAN has distinguished itself with its energetic “we won’t fail” culture, a national-caliber team working on state-level problems, and a focused and committed board. As a key member of the team, the Intern will support the Government Relations Associate and will work closely with other team members on key tasks and projects. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional multi-tasking abilities, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and be extraordinarily organized, detail-oriented and self-directed. He or she should have a strong interest in the state political process, and will be provided many opportunities to learn and grow within the political field. Responsibilities • Legislative Process and Support: Track bills as they move through the legislative process. Monitor committees and issues of cognizance throughout the legislative session. Attend hearings and meetings with the Government Relations Associate at the State Capitol and other locations. • Event planning: Work to coordinate with the Government Relations Associate on logistics for ConnCAN forums and events. • Scheduling and Administrative Support: Assist with the scheduling of meetings with policy makers and key partners throughout the legislative session. Support the Government Relations Associate as needed. Qualifications • Political science background, with an interest to learn more about state government and the legislative process. • Strong interest in education reform and ConnCAN’s mission to close the achievement gap. • Sense of humor, strong work ethic, “roll-up-my-sleeves” attitude, and willingness to do “whatever it takes.” • Flexibility of hours, and a willingness to spend a few late nights at the State Capitol as the last days of the legislative session conclude. • Bachelor’s degree in political science or a related field is preferred. Will consider a strong candidate pursuing a bachelor’s or advanced degree, and will work with you to obtain credit towards completion, if desired. Internship will run from January 4, 2010 to June 25, 2010, with a monthly stipend. Interested candidates should send a cover letter and resume to jessica.stram@conncan.org.
