| Description: | The GIS eCrime Investigator position is an entry level e-crime research opportunity reporting to the Director of Technical Investigations within eBay's Global Information Security team. The position will be ideal for someone with an Information Security or Applied Research background and a passion for criminology, cybercrime history, and problem solving. The Investigator needs to be well organized with strong written and verbal communication skills, demonstrate sound judgment, and be confident working independently with direction from Information Security management. The Investigator will be responsible for: -Conducting targeted research into criminal actors and groups who are impacting eBay, its subsidiaries and related customers. -Managing multiple research projects at once while effectively prioritizing time based on company priorities. -Performing sensitive security investigations while maintaining high levels of confidentiality. -Fully documenting all investigative research for consumption by other team members, management and law enforcement. -Working very closely with the rest of the Technical Investigations staff, Law Enforcement, and other teams within the company. Job Requirements Technical Attributes Required: - Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent in Computer Science, Information Systems, History, Political Science, or related degree. - Total of 2+ years experience in Information Security, Applied Research or Investigations. - Strong understanding of how the Internet works with an emphasis on the domain name space, address resolution and registration. - Working knowledge of a variety of Internet Research tools. - Understanding of encryption software and other tools used to protect sensitive data. - Ability to interpret information from multiple sources and work with large data sets. - Ability to to develop group modus operandi. - Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills. Personal Attributes Required: - Passionate about the subject of organized crime and criminology on the Internet. - Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, to technical or non-technical audiences. - Experience working in a professional environment. - Strong time management and organizational skills. - Willingness to act within a 24x7 environment. - Ability to work in stressful situations with a sense of urgency. - Excellent team player. - Ability and inclination to protect highly confidential information. - Willingness to work overtime and on weekends with short notice if needed. - Initiative to take on tasks without prompting -- self-starter. - Ability to work as a member of a large team. Skills related to the following are considered a plus: - Law enforcement experience - Foreign language skills (especially Eastern European) - i2 Analyst’s Notebook or other link charting tools. - Maltego - Perl, Python, C#, Java - Web development - Databases Certifications considered a plus: - CISSP, EnCE, GCFA Security, SANS certificates. |
