EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Job Description
The Executive Director will provide professional leadership in the support and development of the YWCA enabling it to meet its constitutional and legal responsibilities and to maintain requirements as a member Association of the YWCA of the USA and the YWCA of the Pacific Region. The Executive Director must be committed to women’s leadership development, economic empowerment and the elimination of racism. The successful candidate will work to enhance the YWCA’s profile with the community, media, funding sources and general public; establish an understanding of the YWCA’s unique role in providing services for women and girls; and assist in developing a diverse base of donors, members and clients as well as being able to deepen the YWCA’s presence and impact in intentional advocacy efforts. The Executive Director serves as staff to the Board of Directors, ex-officio, and reports to the Board of Directors through the President. The Executive Director will maintain and lead a management team and work with the Board of Directors to develop and implement programs with outcome measurements for YWCA Hallmark Programs and plans in support of the YWCA’s mission, vision and goals.

The Executive Director works under policy guidelines established by the Board of Directors; and, reports directly to the President.

The Executive Director supervises the work of all management staff including fund development, finance, program, and administrative staff.

Duties and responsibilities of the position include:
• ADMINISTRATION
- Manages all administrative, human resource, financial, community relations and planning functions of the organization.
- Develops and directs the implementation of goals, objectives, policies, procedures and work standards and required organization documentation.
- Maintains positive, interactive, supportive relationships with other YWCAs as well as the Pacific Region and National Coordinating Board and Staff.
- Manages all Association facilities and assures the proper use, management, security and upkeep of facilities owned and rented.

• FUND DEVELOPMENT
- Builds the revenue capability of the organization by working with the Fund Development Director and Board to form and maintain significant funding relationships as well as strengthening and expanding existing relationships and leveraging contacts and resources to expand the donor resource base.
- Oversees and facilitates the implementation of fund raising goals including grant writing, events, donor development, annual funds, and major gifts in conjunction with staff and the Board’s leadership.

• MEMBERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
- Implements plans to ensure an involved and growing pluralistic membership including planning and scheduling of membership meetings to inform members about the Association’s programs and activities and encourage participation in decisions affecting its future.
- Assists the Association nominating committee to identify candidates for responsible leadership positions.


• FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
- Directs and implements appropriate financial compliance, reporting and auditing activities to ensure financial integrity and viability of the organization.
- Prepares and works with Finance Committee and staff to develop annual budget, and any revisions necessary, for Board action.
- With staff responsible, provides timely reports, maintains financial controls and assists the Finance Committee as needed.

• PROGRAM MANAGEMENT
- In cooperation with staff, provides oversight and develops and manages the infrastructure required to maintain, deliver, and expand programs and services.
- Ensures leadership development that demonstrates a commitment to the needs and concerns of women and the elimination of racism utilizing local, regional, national and world YWCA resources.
- Works with Board Chair to ensure that responsibility is assigned to volunteers and staff for development of leadership from membership and for placement of developing leaders in positions of increasing responsibility including involvement in the Pacific Region, the YWCA of the USA and the World YWCA.
- Ensures the production and distribution of YWCA information and materials including quarterly newsletters, media releases and annual reports.

• BOARD DEVELOPMENT/RELATIONS
- Works as team partner with the President; and, collaborates with the Board in recruiting, orienting and involving appropriate community members to serve on the Board.
- Provides guidance, information and support to all Board members leading to planning and policy adoption.

• VALUES/ETHICAL STANDARDS
- Acts ethically, responsibly and with utmost integrity and sets personal standards of behavior that serve as a model to others.
- Maintains the highest standards of conduct and treats the staff with respect and promotes healthy behaviors.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s Degree preferred; 5 plus years of management experience leading an organization requiring the development of a viable community presence and building commitment of mission and strategies for implementation among diverse constituencies. Demonstrated skills in financial acumen and history of successful management of budget and financial resources. Pro-active self starter with demonstrated ability to work effectively with a governing board and staff. A collaborative leader with an inclusive personal style, ability to build effective teams, excellent verbal and written skills; previous record of working successfully in multi-cultural environment.
