Description: This position is for a Senior Database Administrator within a production support technology team, supporting multiple Oracle 11g, Oracle 10g, and PostGres database environments residing on UNIX servers.
The qualified candidate needs to take responsibility for leading the design and implementation of new databases, monitoring and maintaining existing databases, resolving complex database issues, problem determination, optimizing performance, and implementing protocols for disaster recovery and security. This may include providing task direction, mentoring, and project management to other team members and junior Database Administrators. The ideal candidate will be a team player with good verbal and written skills and the ability to interact with both technical and non-technical customers.
MUST be able to perform all aspects of Oracle database administration and maintenance for Oracle 11g/10g as well as thoroughly understand Data Guard replication, Grid Monitoring and e-mail alerting, and RMAN backup and restore configurations. Knowledge of Oracle Spatial setup and query tuning a plus. Must be willing to learn PGADMIN functionality for PostGres as well as how to install preconfigured PostGres modules and databases onto UNIX Servers.
MUST be able to formulate plans for new hardware setup and deployment to production, as well as define plans to migrate data from Oracle 11g to PostGres and back. Hardware setup includes layout of the SAN subsystems for higher Oracle database performance.
Need to have solid UNIX / LINUX experience. Hands on system level experience, as opposed to using GUI tools like Enterprise Manager or Toad preferred.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
1. Technical Database Lead for a multi-site Oracle and PostGres environment in a high reliability operations environment.
2. Ensure database performance & availability by monitoring space, CPU usage, fragmentation of data and by tuning queries, etc. using Grid Control Features.
3. Participate in design reviews, provide input to DB architecture and design issues.
4. Work with other DBAs, System Engineers, Software Developers, and Project Management to coordinate integration and ensure compatibility of hardware, operating systems, database tools and applications.
5. Ensure database integrity & security by developing, documenting, communicating, managing and enforcing protocols involving changes to database structure, data, procedures, and user access.
6. Collaborate with project teams to evaluate new database needs. Review the proposed logical and physical database models, consult with Development as appropriate, and participate in creation of the final database structure as necessary.
7. Maintain DB servers at current patch levels, following configuration management practices.
8. Develop, communicate, and carry out procedures designed to facilitate recovery from database failure, such as online backups, archiving, and exports.
9. Work with developers to build, deploy & troubleshoot DB’s in Integration & QA environment.
10. Assist other DBAs with complex problems and analyze and resolve issues using database tools.
11. Analyze existing, new, and emerging technologies for appropriateness, fit, and functionality within current environment and strategic plan. Interface with vendors to assess their competency and ongoing support abilities.
12. Plan and execute database version upgrades in conjunction with move to new production hardware.
13. Study and recommend architecture for geographically diverse production environment using multiple production database instances. Assist in determining implementation costs and timetable. Execute plan following receipt of funding.
