BARRETT Thesis Creative Project Art Exhibit: The Other Side
Arizona State University Step Gallery
Purpose:
In ‘The Other Side’, the ideas and practices of artists and art historians of the feminist movement in the arts will be contrasted and compared with ideas held by young artists today. This exhibition looks at the connection between the women’s movement and the evolution of art practice and art historical theory. It addresses issues of ideological continuity, paradigm shifts, and the perception of social matters between generations of artists that may be reflected in the creative process. The result of this exhibition will be a visual analysis of the evolution of the female image, both in meaning and formal representation. The findings will reveal whether or not any of the ideas in the original movement correlate to a specific demographic of society today.
