King (or Queen) of the World [B E T A]                                    Yes, I'm ready to be King (or Queen).

How to Play
What's the object of this game?
The name says it all. You are trying to become the King/Queen of the World by being ranked number one in the World. But until you become the head honcho, you must be someone else's subject. Everyone in the World serves someone else, except the King/Queen.
How is my rank determined?
Your rank is dependent upon how many points you have. Your points are calculated using a secret formula that involves the total acres of land you control and the total amount of gold that you have.
How often are the ranks updated?
Everyone's ranks, points, and gold are recalculated during the recalculation period (between 11:00AM and 2:00PM PST each day). During this time it will not be possible to initiate any new actions. The person that is ranked number one after the recalcuations will be the new King/Queen. The former King/Queen will become his subject.
Ok, I've added the application and selected a location for my capital. Now what do I do?
If you go to your page, you will see a list of actions you can take as well as news regarding actions (either initiated by you or by others) with which you are currently involved. As of right now, the following actions are available (more will be added in the future):
  • Find new subjects – you can gain new subjects by asking people to pledge allegiance to you. When you ask someone to become your subject, you need to provide the terms of the pledge which include:
    • Tribute percentage – the percentage of their daily gold earned that they must give to you.
    • Number of days of service before they get your royal standard (optional) – the number of days they must remain loyal to you before you give them your royal standard.
Remember, in order for someone to pledge allegiance to you they will have to break their allegiance with their current ruler. It makes sense to provide favorable terms for the pledge.
  • Find lands to invade – you can take gold, scholars, and battle standards from others by invading their lands and being victorious. When you decide to invade someone else's lands you will have to determine the number of you soldiers to send. Here are a few things to keep in mind:
    • You are not victorious until all of your opponent's defending soldiers have been eliminated.
    • Your soldiers that are away, invading, will not be able to defend your homeland if you are attacked by someone else.
    • It takes time for your soldiers to reach the lands they are invading. It also takes time for them to return home after they are victorious or if you order a retreat.
    • Soldiers that are defending their homeland tend to fight more ferociously than soldiers that are invading.
    • If you are victorious, the amount of gold and the number of scholars that you take from the defeated enemy is directly proportional to the number of your soldiers that are still with the battalion after the battle. There is a limit to the number of gold and soldiers you can take, however, which is based on a percentage of the gold and scholars the defeated enemy has.
    • If you are victorious, you will seize one of the enemy's battle standards unless they have already seized one of yours. In that case, you will take back your battle standard.
    • If you are defeated, your enemy will be able to salvage the equipment from your fallen soldiers sell it for gold.
    • Once a citizen's lands have been successfully invaded, the high courts may protect that person from being immediately invaded again. He will be protected for up to 7 days, depending on how many soldiers he lost while defending his lands relative to the total number of soldiers he had at the time of the defeat. In other words, the more diligently he tried to protect his lands, the longer the protection he will receive.
  • Train new soldiers – soldiers are necessary to both defend your land from invasion and to invade the lands of others. It takes time and gold to train new soldiers.
  • Educate new scholars – scholars are constantly researching and improving technology that make your people and lands more profitable. Having more scholars means earning more gold each day. It takes time and gold to educate new scholars.
  • Build new structures – build structures on your land to strengthen your empire. Each structure serves a different purpose.
How do battle standards work?
Battle standards are banners that soldiers take into combat. Without one, your soldiers will lack the morale to engage their enemy. If you successfully invade another citizen's lands and are the initiator of that invasion, you will seize one of his battle standards unless he has one of yours. In that case, you will take back your battle standard. Every day you will receive 4% of the gold earned by each of the owners of the battle standards you have seized. By the same token, you will be required to pay 4% of your daily gold to each citizen that has seized one of your battle standards. In order to stop this, you must reclaim it by successfully invading their lands. You start with 15 battle standards. If you lose all of them, you will be unable to invade anyone except those citizens that have seized them.
How do Alliances work?
Alliances allow citizens to organize and help each other. Here are a few things to keep in mind before joining an Alliance:
  • You can be in only a member of one Alliance at a time.
  • Members of an Alliance can simultaneously invade the lands of any citizen that another member of the Alliance is invading with a limit of 2 times the number of members in the target’s Alliance. Example 1: Citizen A is in Alliance Y which has 5 members. A invades the lands of Citizen B who is in Alliance Z which has 2 members. 3 other members of Y may also invade the lands of B. If the 5th member of Y tries to invade, he will be denied. Example 2: Citizen A is in Alliance Y which has 5 members. A invades the lands of Citizen B who is not in an Alliance. Only one other member of Y may also invade the lands of B.
  • Spoils from an invasion are split among all the Alliance members that were involved in the invasion. The amount of gold and/or scholars given to each member is equivalent to the number of soldiers that were lost by each member. If no soldiers were lost, the spoils are divided equally.
  • If the citizen being invaded has seized the battle standard of one or more of the Alliance members that are invading, one of those battle standards (chosen at random) will be returned upon victory by the Alliance. If he has none of the invaders’ battle standards, one of his battle standards will be randomly awarded to one of the invaders.
  • When you view a fellow Alliance member’s profile while he is invading or being invaded, you will see the invasions’ progress via an Alliance status report.
  • Alliance members who wish to join an Alliance invasion must meet the upper points requirements. In other words, their total points must be less than 10% above the total points of the citizen being invaded. The lower points requirement does not apply in an Alliance invasion, except in the case of the citizen initiating the invasion.
  • All rules of battle standards still apply to Alliance invasions. Example: if Citizen A invades the lands of Citizen B, Citizen C, who is in the same Alliance as A, may not join in the invasion if C already has the battle standard of B.
  • The lands of Alliance members are closer together than the lands of citizens with no relationship (though they are not as close together as the lands of a ruler and his subject). Thus, assets that are sent between Alliance members travel more quickly than assets that are sent between those with no relationship.
Why does it take time to complete an action?
The in-game unit of time measurement is called a "tick." A tick is 30 minutes long. Most actions in the game take a certain number of ticks in order to complete (training soldiers, educating scholars, invading lands, etc.). The reason for this is to give other players a chance to respond. Example: if Player A invades the land of Player B, Player B will be notified. While Player A's troops are mobilizing and heading over to Player B's lands, Player B may choose to start training new soldiers to help with the forthcoming battle.
How do I earn gold?
You earn gold from:
  • Your people and lands – you get a fixed amount of gold each day from taxing your people and lands.
  • Your scholars – the scholars under your command will help make your people and lands more profitable.
  • Royal standards in your collection – for every royal standard in your collection, you earn a fixed amount of gold each day.
  • Tributes from your subjects – you will receive a percentage of the daily gold earned by each of your direct subjects. These percentages were determined when they pledged allegiance to you. If your direct subjects also have subjects, you will indirectly get a portion of their gold as well. For example: A is a subject of B. A gives 50% of his gold to B, every day. B is a subject of C. B gives 40% of his gold (which includes the gold he got from A) to C, every day. This continues all the way up the ladder. As you can see, having a lot of subjects really pays off.
  • Invading the lands of others – if you successfully invade someone else's lands, your soldiers will take some of their gold, scholars, and a battle standard as spoils.
  • Defending your lands from others - if you successfully defend your lands from an invasion, you will be able to salvage the equipment from enemy's fallen soldiers sell it for gold.
  • Performing tasks for the Kingdom - you can learn how to earn gold (and help pay for server costs) on the Earn Gold page.
