Help section – FAQ

For all help regarding your Justgiving account, making donations and anything to do with the Justgiving site (not Facebook), then visit our main help section here: http://www.justgiving.com/Statements/help/help.asp?did=1

Do I need a Justgiving page before I can use the Justgiving Facebook app?

Not at all. You can promote any fundraising page you want. That could be your own, but it could be one of your friends’ or even a popular public appeal such as the Cutty Sark appeal or Richard Hammond’s page for the YAA.

Which charities can I support?

Any of our 2,600 charities in the UK, and any registered US non-profit via the Firstgiving app (coming soon). You can see the full charity list here: http://www.justgiving.com/Process/CharityGuide/default.asp and if you can’t find your charity, then you can nominate it here: http://www.justgiving.com/statements/nominate/default.asp

How does the money bit work?

Donations made through Justgiving are processed in real time by our banking partners Barclays. Funds are paid into a legal trust account and transferred to the recipient charity at the end of every week.

We automatically reclaim Gift Aid on all donations made by UK taxpayers. Funds received from HMRC are paid into a legal trust account and transferred to the recipient charity at the end of every month.

We provide our member charities with detailed reports on all money donated and raised by their supporters.

So how do we make money?

We charge 5% commission on gross donations (donation + Gift Aid), plus VAT. Card transaction fees are passed on to you at cost price.

What do we do for our fees?

We provide:

  • automated donation processing
  • automated Gift Aid reclaim (we were the first to do this!)
  • remittance of funds to charities every week
  • a sophisticated online reporting system for charities that provides data in real-time
  • an Inland Revenue audit trail, maintained for at least 7 years
  • a free helpdesk manned by real live people to answer all charity and donor enquiries by telephone and email

Even after deduction of our fees, charities receive around £12 for every £10 donated, which represents a huge saving in time and cost over offline fundraising.
