“Up With Me’ is that film. It tells the story of 17-year-old Francisco, his girlfriend Erika, and his best friend, Brandon. When Francisco is selected for a scholarship to a prestigious boarding school, he doesn’t know what to do – he’s afraid of changing, of no longer being the kid from the East Harlem streets. With encouragement from Erika to go (even as she warns him he “better not get too smart”), Francisco accepts the scholarship.
With his best buddy gone, Brandon begins acting out, first in small ways, then in large. When Brandon finally gets into serious trouble, Francisco returns to help him out, even though doing so alienates him from Erika and puts his scholarship at risk.
“Up With Me” follows the struggles of all three kids as they cope with the risks of change, and the risks of staying the same. (collapse)

To properly launch the film at SXSW!
Folks -- We get one chance to premiere a film, and this is ours.
"Up With Me" was made through a grant from East Harlem Tutorial Project, but that money's gone.
We can use friends and favor to finish the movie, but not for the basics of giving our movie the right exposure. We need a press agent - we've got a great one, who's giving us a huge deal (75% off!) but just can't do it for free.
We also need a sales consultant. It's a small movie, and we won't be making multi-million dollar sale to Harvey and Bob. But we're going to get the movie released, somewhere, somehow. We need a real pro - and, again, we've found someone great! He's doing it for next to nothing...
Finally, we need to give our team the resources to do their job. That means posters, DVDs, press kits, an EPK, a reception. No one of these things cost much, but add them up and... well, you know. You're filmmakers, too.
Please help us make our premiere all it can be. Not just a night of fun and pride, but the one night that launches a thousand nights. The night that can change these kids' lives forever.
