Claire, a precocious yet still innocent pre-teen girl, tries to learn about her absent father by secretly painting his portrait from her imagination. When her mother discovers the painting, Claire learns an even bigger secret, and takes the first steps on the path to becoming a young woman.

In addition to presenting a shared life experience through a child's story, Inspiration also presents a positive and empowering image for young girls. American adolescent girls face tremendous pressure from both peers and the media to conform to particular roles. Claire is comfortable and confident in her distinct style and sensibility. She exhibits a balance of precocious knowledge, childlike innocence, fear, and bravado that is common to American girls in our current culture.
