Jons New Years Blog
1:40pm on December 31, 2009

Hello and seasons greetings to one and all.  I hope you are in good health and fine spirits this New Year's Eve.

We've been busy finishing up our '09 demos and will begin recording the album proper early in the New Year.  We can't wait to get back into the studio and create a whole new chapter in the Your Vegas story.  Some of you have heard a few of the new songs at shows over the past year and we can't wait for you to hear the rest of them.  Some of them are so new that we haven't even written them yet.

2009 was an eventful year here in the US, what with the tragic passing of the King of Pop, Swine Flu, the Miracle on the Hudson River and, of course, the Balloon Boy Hoax.  I must admit that although I was fascinated by Balloon Boy, the thing I'll remember 2009 for when I'm an old man is the inauguration of Barack Obama.  It's one of those major historical moments that you remember where you were when it happened, like when man first landed on the moon (I wasn't alive then though - just to be clear).

I'm not sure how to refer to next year at the moment.  Is it, "Two thousand and ten," or just, "Twenty-ten?"  I think I prefer "Twenty-ten" because it sounds more futuristic, even though it will soon be the present.  I quite like the idea of calling it "MMX" like the Roman's do but many people believe this method is outdated.

Twenty-ten will be a busy year of touring and releases for us and we can't wait to get back on the road and perform for you all.  With this in mind, there are a few shows in early January that we want to let you know about:

Friday, 15 January - Rockwood Music Hall (Acoustic set), New York City

Saturday, 16 January - Middle East, Cambridge, Massachusetts

Friday, 22 January - Canal Room, New York City

Finally, I want to say a big "Good Luck" to Leeds United who will be playing Manchester United in the F.A Cup on Sunday.  Marching On Together!

Wishing you and your families a happy and a healthy New Year,
Jon. xxx

Merry Christmas!
4:46pm on December 24, 2009

Ho ho ho and Merry Christmas YV Cats!!

I hope you have a drink in hand and have a happy holidays whatever your religious persuasion. Dont take it easy alright?!
We're all spending this one together in NYC. And it shall a fun one I tell thee. Crazy that its nearly the end of the year though! It seems only yesterday that we were back in Otley last December playing at Korks and raising our glasses in the Rose and Crown. 2009 has flown by and we've been busy writing the next record for the vast majority of it, which we're getting very excited about! I know we've not toured as much as you and we'd all like, but we'll more than make up for it in 2010. Thanks for you patience cats. We love ya even more for it. Besides, don't they say, that good things come to those who wait? Whoever 'they' are...
So besides, drinking, eating and being generally merry, the next few weeks are going to be spent listening through to everything we have so far as a body of work. I'm excited with what we have. Its going to be a killer record and a great way to start the next decade! A decade which we're going to fill with great Your Vegas records! We have an empire to build. Choosing 12 songs from these to make up this one is going to be impossible! There is a working title but i'm not telling you what it is yet...maybe in a few weeks.

So anyway, 2009, thanks for being a year of creativity, vision and discovery. Bring on 2010!!!

Sending love, light, happiness and good health to you all,

Merry Christmas and happy new year!!!

Coyle xoxo

Jon's latest Blog: "The Falcon Cometh..."
5:18pm on October 21, 2009

Hello everyone, hope you're well.

Between watching the Balloon Boy drama unfold and making cups of tea we've been busy writing and rehearsing up some new tunes this past week. My personal favorite out of the bunch is called "Warrior."

I have been fascinated by the whole Balloon Boy story.  I watch the interview with the Heene family six or seven times a day and it still shocks me. It's just so entertaining to watch such blatant, desperate and feeble lying. What kind of unemployed, fame-thirsty idiots are these people? Thinking they could fool us! Well we showed them didn't we sheriff?

When you think about it the Heene's really didn't map out their plan very well. Ever heard of a phone call being traced Mr. Heene? Turns out the first call he made after the balloon took off was to a news agency to let them know they had better get a chopper in the air stat.  As an afterthought he told his wife to call the emergency services to make them aware that their child was in a UFO.

Mistake number one: You should make it appear that your child's safety is paramount.

We all know the golden rule is not to work with children or animals on live television and the parents got what they deserved when Falcon went off script and blew the whistle on them during their interview with Wolf Blitzer later that night.

Then, the next morning:

"But I thought lying was wrong daddy?" said Falcon as the Heene family hung out backstage before their appearance on the Today Show.
"Shut up man!" snapped Richard. "We can still make this work."
"It's over father," said Rio. "Just face it. You've made a fool of us all. I beg you, come clean and maybe they'll let you off with just a warning. Please father. For us."
"No!" said Richard as he dipped a carrot in some hummus. "I want us to follow through with the original plan."
"This is making me feel ill daddy," said Falcon. "The doctor said I'm suffering from nervous exhaustion. I think I may be sick during the interview."

Mistake number two: Children can't keep secrets.

During the family's interview on CNN on the night of the incident Richard Heene said that his family wanted to be left alone and that they "weren't even going to do this interview" but then the next morning they appeared on the Today Show doing yet another interview.

Mistake number three: Don't pretend you're not in it "for the show" and then agree to do interviews on numerous television shows because people will think you're lying.

Anyway, if you haven't already got tickets to our Halloween show at Crash Mansion then buy them today to avoid missing out. We're going to be getting into the spirit of things and getting dolled up to the nines.  It's $20 and there's an open vodka bar from 8pm til 10pm then it's $4 beers and $2 shots all night.  Get your tickets here:

Dates for Your Vegas diary are:

Friday, October 23: Rockwood Music Hall (10PM) (Acoustic show)

Saturday, October 24: Bowery Electric (12PM)

Saturday, October 31: Crash Mansion (9PM)

See you soon folks!
Jon
