Been a while since I've shared music with you so I thought I'd give you a taste of what's to come.

Seven songs in... lots going on. Wanted to get really quiet so I could hear what my head was saying. Two words of advice: travel alone. Music via an 8am jetlag pop-awake and Native Instruments Acoustik Piano. I took a break from still photography and used a Panasonic HVX200 HD camera. I stayed still, let life move in front of me. Man, am I deep!

The first of a weekly-ish progress report on the making of Battle Studies.

As the finishing touches are being put on the studio, Steve and I get back into the groove. This is the guitar I wrote the Stitched Up groove on. I'm playing a Novax 8 string guitar (bass and guitar on the same instrument) through a Fulltone Tremolo, Way Huge Aquapuss and into a Dumble Overdrive Reverb. Alessandro 2x12 Celestion gold speaker cab.

Took a very crude demo of a rough idea (disclaim enough?) into the car just to get some inspiration.

What do you do when you drink a little bit on a Friday night, go out and dance? You know what I do? I stay home and CHANGE THE WORLD. Somebody once told me something I'll never forget. "John," they said, "you're scaring me." Watch and enjoy. I don't even think "espose" is a real word.

Where Kanye blazed trails with his singing on "808 and Heartbreak", I have decided to cross over into hip hop.

Day 2 of working on this song, SO EARLY in the process, but I thought I'd share... in the spirit of transparency...

Took a break from setting up the studio space and jammed a bit. There's something I love about playing with just drums because it gives me the harmonic freedom to go wherever I like. And whenever Steve and I see each other and there's a drum kit and a guitar rig around, this is how we say hello to one another. For the playas: I'm using a '52 Tele through a Fender Princeton. No pedals.
