Friday, November 7th

Good Morning Friends,

I'm writing to you from the couch of a good friend in the beautiful locale of Charleston, SC. Spent a couple days off here in between tour dates and am quickly becoming a huge fan of this little city.  Anyways, I've got a spare moment before we take off up north to get right back into the shows, and even though I should definitely be up north to get right back into the shows, and even though I should definitely be using this time to change my guitar strings, I'd much rather write and say hello. (I might completely regret that after a couple broken strings tonight, though).  Anyways, here's some brief highlights from the first leg of our tour (more to come soon):

- Wearing the same clothes for like 3 days in a row...After many hours in a van, carrying   heavy gear, etc...  Dear Axe body spray.  Thank you for being you.

- Watching and getting to play with Slow Runner.  These guys are sick musicians.

- Watching and getting to play with Caitlin.  She'll definitely make you feel like less of a singer when she does her thing.

- An old (and super drunk) guy dancing right in front of the stage for a good chunk of my   set in Macon.  And then watching the same guy try to start a fight later.  Ah, Macon.

- 4 burritos, maybe 6 bags of Cheetos, granola bars falling upon my stomach like rain.

- Hanging out every night with the coolest fans in the world.  Seriously.  I don't know why  you guys are always so kind and supportive to me, but man it sure feels amazing.

- Drinking a red bull at 3:30AM to stay awake for my shift at the wheel...when it wasn't   my shift at the wheel.  (Then) Staying awake for hours in the back of the van hopped up on   red bull, when I could have been sleeping :)

Can't wait to get back out there. It's been amazing to see so many of you out at the shows.

I'll update again soon.  Lots of shows coming up.

Here we come...

- William

*Boston Herald Review Calls The Sparrow and The Crow "...a near-masterpiece"

Below is the Boston Herald review of The Sparrow and The Crow. Enjoy!

Powerfully heart-wrenching and yet so delicate you fear a breath might blow it right out of the CD player, singer-songwriter Fitzsimmons’ chronicle of his divorce is a near-masterpiece. Recalling both the cornhusker folk-rock of early Joe Henry and the doomed intimacy of Nick Drake, “The Sparrow and the Crow” makes art and beauty out of tragedy without selling the tragedy short - as you’d expect from a licensed therapist. It’s tough stuff, marred only by repetitiveness. But that does nothing to diminish Fitzsimmons’ artistic achievement, which is huge and lasting. Download: “If You Would Come Back Home.” (Appearing Thursday at Johnny D’s, Somerville.) A -

So I find myself today sitting in terminal F11 at Chicago's O'Hare airport.  It's terribly rainy and overcast outside, which is just the kind of weather you hope for when air travel is in your near future.  But I'd have to admit my spirits are actually quite bright.  I just chatted with a wonderful young women named Jenny who recognized me from across the room (yes I know how much of a braggart that makes me to recount the tale, but I still find it an honor).  It made me realize a couple things: 1) This beard makes for a pretty awful disguise, but a really dynamite tool for getting recognized.  2) I'm starting to become extremely familiar with a large number of airports (I think the ladies at Starbucks know my order by heart) and 3) My fans are honestly the kindest, most thoughtful people I've ever met.  (Thanks for the kind words Jenny - that was a really unexpected and appreciated surprise).

The Paste Tour begins in just a few days, and I'm heading down to South Carolina to put the final touches on the shows.  I think it's going to be a really brilliant trip and this is my first chance to play the new record live (and with a band!).  In any case I'm calling on all of you, my most dear and loyal, to spread the word about the shows, tell your friends, and come out and join us.  My foundation has always been built on word of mouth and the kindness of those that connect with the tunes, and I find confidence and gratitude knowing it will continue to be.

Thank you to all of you who have been a part of this and who continue to be.  I look forward to sharing these songs and shows with you in the coming weeks.  And please do have a look at the tour schedule to see if we're coming near where you might be.  Be safe, travel well, and see you on the road soon! See full details below.

* Musings From The Beard So I'm sitting at home in front of a warm glowing
fire (just kidding...man that would be great to have a fireplace, though,
right?) taking in the last couple weeks. I think it'd be fair to say that
I was somewhere between slightly on edge and rather temperamental in the
days leading up to the release. I was very excited, for sure, but you just
really never know how a work is going to be received until it is.
To say the least my expectations were way beyond exceeded, and I've been
greatly humbled by the overwhelming number of wonderful messages, reviews,
shared experiences, and so forth that people have been sending my way. I
can't tell you how much it means to know that the new songs are meeting you
so well. And as evidence of why I sincerely believe that I actually do
have the most amazing fans around, I am terribly proud to let you know
that "The Sparrow And The Crow" debuted on the Top 100 albums on iTunes!
Furthermore, it is currently the #4 Top Folk Album on iTunes!! For a little
independent artist like myself, that is just a huge honor. And I sincerely
thank each and every one of you who have and continue to support me and
this project by picking up the music, telling friends, and coming out to
shows. It's become a horrible cliche to say it, but I mean it with all my
heart: I can't do it without each and everyone of you. THANK YOU!!!
For now I'm at home for a couple weeks working hard to get ready for the
back to back tours coming up soon. To my US fans, I can't wait to see you
guys soon and share the new songs with you with a band for the first time.
These shows are going to be a lot of fun. And to my Germany/European fans,
please get the beer taps ready! ;) Can't wait to get over there for the
first time and play! Such a huge honor on both accounts. Be safe and well
and I look forward to seeing you at a show!
With huge gratitude,
William
