I think the show, overall, was good; this was my first Tool show, and certainly not the best live show I have seen by any stretch. I love Tool's music and I have a lot of respect for the band.
With that being said; Tool is a weird band to watch live, and that is not a negative thing; maybe "different" would be a better word. Maynard's behavior is probably the biggest contributor to this conclusion, however Adam was stoic during the entire show and I just found it odd. It did seem as though the band had a good relationship among themselves on stage, which was refreshing, it kind of offset the weirdness, but I guess that's their "shtick".
The relationship that the band has with the audience is very different from what I am used to at a live show, but none of that REALLY matters, it's just an observation and part of the experience.
Some of the things I enjoyed: (in no particular order)
- Seeing the guys perform their songs in person - always fun.
- The lights and video - very cool.
- The set list - Of course I would have liked to hear more, but it was a good "sample".
- The diversity of the audience - There were ALL kinds of people there, that was cool.
Some of the "issues" I had with the show:
- The acoustics were *decent* on the floor, although the overall volume was just too high; someone mentioned the "Muddy" "Pounding, noise" and the fact that "If you didn't already know the songs you would have no idea what they were playing or what Tool even sounded like" and I have to agree to a point, however I attribute the muddy sound with the SPL more than anything, and not necessarily the engineering. I could hear the full spectrum of music and the detail of each instrument quite clearly if put my fingers gently into my ears, of course by doing so I lost sound quality but gained clarity. I could actually feel my inner ear muscles trying to attenuate the volume to their best ability, but without success, and mids and highs (clarity) are always going to be the first to go in that situation. My point is that the show was simply too loud. I've always been a fan of loud music, but when it is so loud that it physically overwhelms my mic's It's difficult to enjoy.
- Idiots throwing cups of beer...come on now...Douche Bags.
- Maynard singing into a megaphone..OK, I get it, but like others have mentioned, you couldn't really hear him well much of the time that he was using it.
And Finally...
- Tweak Bird - I think they should drop the B and carry the T...if you don't get it, that would be "Weak Tird". I think they were absolutely SHITTY. A kid whining off key in to a mic while making ridiculous noises on a guitar that he can't play, while Animal (Muppet) pounded on a drum set; all at 130db! Oh and what about the flute and saxophone? THAT WAS AWESOME!....not. It was horrible, I could not wait for it to end, and based the reaction of the people around us, I would bet that they had similar sentiments. I know that's harsh, but come on! I paid good money to see professional musicians work it out, NOT watch the shit show that is Weak Tird.
The ONLY thing positive that I can say about Weak Tird is that I think Ashton (the Drummer) did an admirable job when he came back out to play with Tool, he has a long way to go in my book, but what he and Danny did was fun.
So that's it. This is my opinion based on my observation. Take it with a grain of salt.

This was the worst concert I have ever attended (and my 2nd Tool show). The sound was awful. Muddy and nothing but pounding noise. If you didn't already know the songs you would have no idea what they were playing or what Tool even sounded like. I could rarely hear Adam Jones' guitar as it just blended in to the cacophony. I hope to god it was the venue (the beautiful Bojangles Coliseum) and not the worst sound engineer on the planet. I suspect it was both. My concert mate, another huge fan of the band like me, agreed, Totally disappointing. I heard some kids behind raving about it, but I suspect they were taken in by the laser light show. I like "the show", but I come to see Tool for the music not the display.
"Ever get the feeling you've been cheated?"

Tweak Bird was much better than expected. Tool was good but at times a little sluggish and Maynard......I think if he could perform from back stage I think he would. Maybe his vocals would sound better. Bojangles is officially a crappy place as the acoustics suck. I've seen Tool 3 other times on this tour (Orpheum Theatre Boston, and smaller arenas in Greenville SC, and Winston Salem NC) and all were much better. With that, it was my favorite band and musically, they killed it.

Being in the top section I didn't hear his voice except partially in one or two songs.. Next time I'm on the floor or not going! Hope everyone else had a good time.
Let me know if the floor was better.
Only plus the rest of the band sounded good and the lights kicked a55.
