I know I'll get her back...eventually- as soon as the images of Tom Jones' hip swiveling, soul wrenching, still immaculate and awesome singing, fade from my wife's incubating memory. And what's worse- he pointed her out pretty much right away and made her his love puppy for the duration of his two hour stint on stage. Honestly. Winking at her, provocatively, knowingly, aware of me and not caring a hoot- "She's mine tonight, Buddy!" he seemed to say. And damn, if I didn't agree and let her go. I had to. It was pure love, and as a christian man, who am I to stop this force of nature? The way they looked at each other, adoringly. Him singing- "Your captivating eyes... " Just to her. And her wriggling in delight. Truly- a sight to behold. The only blemish for me was our separation in proximity-not by conscious design, but by me literally being manhandled out of my front row center (standing room only) spot by a group of ferocious women determined to get as close as they could (which meant shoving me aside) so they could wad up their little colorful panties and throw them at this 70 year old Knight. One woman even threw her shoe at Sir Tom as he began the stripper song- "You can take your clothes off baby!" and so many of these gals were willing to do just that. So much for Women's Liberation, as Bob Hope said about Tom Jones. He has an idea about their movement and it's not what you think! :) Seriously- the man is a god. He is truly awesome and he gave his all in every single number. I always loved and admired him before, but after seeing him at work- and this is a guy who does 2-3 weeks in a row- every night at 70- well, it boggles the mind. You should have seen this girl. She was beautiful and looked to me about what she must have looked like at 15. Starry eyed, magnificent, hopeful and so very alluring- that I fell in love with her all over again- even as she was screaming, at the top of her lungs, "I LOVE YOU TOM!!" That's okay. I know she'll come home....eventually. As the guard (who was protecting the backstage entrance) said to me, as my wife begged him to let her go back and say, "Hi." to Tom-- "You are a good husband." Indeed. The things we do for our loved ones.
