As far I can see, I am far from being alone in saying, "The Tea Party Rocks!!" But what most fans might not know is just how impressive they are other than ... More... As far I can see, I am far from being alone in saying, "The Tea Party Rocks!!" But what most fans might not know is just how impressive they are other than musically when performing. I saw they on a smaller venue in a bar in Red Deer a few years back when in the third song, some dumb ass popped a bear spray can in the middle of the dance floor, not more than 4 meters from Jeff Martin. Needless to say, his ass was grass. Now those that don't know, bear spray is like pepper spray on steriods - and you simply can't breathe with any sort of ease or comfort (and that's putting it mildly). So the crowd vacated the bar within moments. What did Jeff and The Tea Party do? They just kept going!!! And if they were, I was damn well gonna stay too (I was one of three people left, but of the three, the closest to the performers and the place where the can got popped). Made for a more "intimate" performance than what the band originally hoped by playing these smaller venues. Well, eventually the spray was too much for the drummer (understandible as he plays like he's working out and the heavier breathing needed probably intensified the sprays effects). But he was twice as far from the spray bomb as Jeff, who btw DID NOT miss a beat or give any such indication that he was affected in the least. Very Impressive!! Makes you wonder if he ever got training in the military or as a cop (cops i know go thru a little pepper spray training). Well, without a rhythm section, it's kinda hard to continue. So Jeff stopped. But what I didn't expect, was as he was about to depart from the mike, he said, "I'm sorry". That saddened me a little as I thought it was really us as an irresponsible audience should have been the one to apologize. And that was the last time I saw them tho they were so gracious to make time later in their tour to schedule a try it a second time but had to work unfortunately. But I'll tell you what. I will never have more respect and admiration for a band than I do for Jeff and The Tea Party after that short performance. Not a bad last memory of the Band - just wish I could have somehow let the band members know i say a real heart-felt "Thank you" for what they had to go thru and that they truly are a class act beyond measure.
