It was so unfair how quickly this knocked "Stuck Between Stations" off the "best THS song" pedestal-- it never had a chance. Everything we know and love about them in spades-- lyrics ("in daylight, she looked desperate/that's alright I was desperate too"), killer hooks, the rock factor, the ultimate sing-along factor, and of course, the handclaps. Handclaps will be forever cool.

Saw Hold Steady in DC the other night and they are one of the best live bands I've ever seen. I love these guys.

The record is called 'War Child presents Heroes' and is being released to help benefit children affected by war around the world. The CD features a slew of contemporary artists such as The Hold Steady and Beck covering a collection of classics. The cool thing about this disc is that all of the artists were chosen by the original performers of the songs to cover them.
