The naïvety of this song is enchanting especially since it is honest about the futility of prayer.

Song struck a chord deep in me the first time my daughter played it several years back(seeing the other posts about it im not the only one it has brought to tears)- its a beautiful & sad song(acoustic guitar/banjo/horns)- about the loss of a dear friend to cancer & i guess some bitterness, how God could let something like that happen- made me think of my grandfather(& im sure they tried praying over him :( ), how i wasn't there til the end to see him 10 minutes and again for his last breath-couldn't be there for those i cared about til it was over- they never told me what was going on..was so shocked by it all i couldn't even say goodbye or cry(was going to say was the most alone i've ever felt but i guess that would be now, esp with the holidays coming) my ex & daughter didnt come with me so i had no one close("well if i had known he was going to die i woulda come...")- i love my family but they felt like strangers being so far away and i stood alone- in a more recent event i really had hoped i could be there for and somehow find peace from it, & the grief i still feel for my grandfather but i missed it and know i can expect the same when my grandmother passes...my grandfather passed on 9/9/01- the day of his wake was 9/11-i watched the trade center attacks as it happened and was trapped down there for a few extra days-definitely a week i will never forget... ok my shrink told me its good to talk to someone about things so i am talking to my puter- as my daughter would say Pathetisad...
