I got turned on to Cheese in 1997, after a friend took a trip skiing to CO. I did not have a lot of their material but knew I needed them. I saw the band f... More... I got turned on to Cheese in 1997, after a friend took a trip skiing to CO. I did not have a lot of their material but knew I needed them. I saw the band for the first time on 8 April 1998 at St Andrew's Hall in Detroit. I met several members of the band that night and was blown away. Michael Travis, the Zen drummer, especially stood out. I bought a String Cheese Incident that night and listened to Lonesome Fiddle Blues, Little Hands, San Jose, Round the Wheel over and over again. Land's End grabbed me the most. It was what sold me on this band. It would lead to 100 Incidents for me, the last one on the closing night of Red Rocks on 12 August 2007. I had been in recovery for over 5 years. I would be part of the birth of the Jellyfish, travel 1000s of miles in its infancy to work a table, make incredible friends, meet and hang out with every member of the band, see countless New Years shows, participate in countless parades, see the Band play its first Bonnaroo see the band at every Langerado and Vegoose show plus after shows, participate in a more than a few Peak Production forays, make countless friends and dance with absolute reckless abandonment. At the final run at the Beacon last July, as usual, we Jellyfish (oh to the uninformed, the sober fan group of SCI), had carved out a section to dance. It was on the balcony and had almost like a platform on the stairs. When Land's End came on, my dear friend Patrick, whom I had been doing the Cheese and Jellyfish with since 2000, ceded the space to me. I got to do my dance there in the lights and it was bittersweet. I would see Land's End on more time in Colorado at the Rocks, but for me, this is where it really ended. The song, that did not even belong to the band, will always be their's. Because of this band, I saw a huge swath of this nation because of this band. Oregon, Maine, New Hampshire, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky and Georgia, just to name a few. Thank you String Cheese Incident for a 9 and a half year ride. I miss you guys so much and I miss my friends. I am older now and there is just not as much of push to go these days. Had it not been for me becoming obsessed with Land's End, none of this ever would have happened.
