This was in seattle before nirvana too, bands that were very influential like soundgarden and mother love bone. Ryan you're a fucking moron. I think nirvana has some good songs. I don't think that they ever claimed to be grunge and kurt cobain hated how trivial their music was becoming with fame and shit. And to cale... you're wrong, I have a book on the kurt cobain's life and they weren't "underground" they weren't even around when bands like green river were doing shows.. Everyone should read accidental revoltion it's a good detailed book on the history of grunge music.

kurt cobain invented grunge in aberdeen because he thought it was punk because he had seen what punk looked like but never heard it so he guessed what it sounded like and invented grunge all the other bands are just people copying of him so do not hate nirvana because they are over rated because without nirvana non of the other grunge bands (which are good especialy the toadies)would exist

ok this goes to krill, i dont know what pointe u are tryin to prove but if u look back in any source of grnge music history or google it for that matter u will see that nirvana are the fathers of grunge stayin underground until early nineties and not even usin the name nirvana. and when asked to go bigyeah they did but they were banned from so many venues due to there we dont give a fuck attitude that they played certain areas. if they werent fillin the crowd being pop tarts, scene kids, jocks, etc.. which was a big factor in there fan basis but they only knew ummm teen spirit wow one song. they didnt know who they were even when they heard that song but they knew the song, and there genre is grunge and it is a mix of metal, rock and punk, and they have contributed many great songs that will alwasy be in ipods, ringtones cds, games and movies for years to come. so sell out no, muscian yes and best of their genre. research before u dis a band, and far as punk goes punk started way befor nirvana was even a band, and pop punk being what is hated by most and listned to by scene kids, not the originals like sex pistols, the ramones, distillers, drop kick murphys, offspring, all great bands and all have contributed a hell of a lot more than u.. and jus to be honest u sound like one of those kids i would slam into the floor durin a mosh pit and repeatedly moch for the remainder of the show.

I'm pretty sure I've touched on that point time and time again. They emasculated a badass genre. They took the metal out of grunge. They highlighted the punk aspect, a generally shitty genre, without any of the fun that makes the very few good punk bands actually listenable. And the more that people defend Nirvana as being this amazingly incredible band the more I have to hate them. And I honestly don't hate them, but I'm starting to, because people don't realize just how overrated they are.
