This is something I heard Paul McCartney say on VH1. That because McCartney could play the song "Twenty Flight Rock" John Lennon asked him to join the Beatles.

Very good but he said he was not as good as Holly. Holly wrote most of his songs, was a dynamite guitarist and a terrific arranger
