Sample HelpSometimes I'm too wordy. Apologies. But since this is just a sample, and there's nothing for you to gain from my writing this save a minor annoyance and a nearly-imperceptible smirk (if I'm lucky, which I likely won't be), I'll continue setting the bar as low as possible until you click Ok. HelpThe app is fairly straightforward. Enter the videos you own and see what everyone else owns--maybe you can borrow something from a friend or loan something out. I tried to leave little helpful breadcrumbs wherever I thought things might get confusing. The items look like this [?] and will pop up a dialog with some tips. So, if you feel the need, please plop a question on the below wall and I'll either answer it or take it into consideration as something someone else might ask about. Beyond that, enjoy. Drop me a note. Poke me, whatever. But have fun, be nice, and share, legally. FAQHere are some generalized FAQs. If more questions come in, I'll expand things into subsections.
Why can't I create a new Collection?
You can't create a new Collection until you have at least begun populating your Default Collection. Once you have searched for some Videos and added them, visit the Collections section and you will see a button to create another Collection. Who can see my Collection?
By default, only your friends. If you would like to change this, just use the Edit Preferences screen for that Collection. You can use 'Public' to let anyone see it, or a more restrictive setting to increase privacy. If you make it to the leaderboard (Top 50) then anyone will be able to see the overall size of your Default Collection, but whether someone can see the contents of that Collection is subject to the normal rules. Why can't I see another user's Collection?
Whether you can see another user's Collection is entirely up to that User. If you are their friend, you can see the Collection. If you aren't their friend, but they have set a Collection to be 'Public', then you and everyone else can see it. If you can't see a user's Collection and would like to, poke them or something and see if they'll let you have a peek. How do I embed my Collection outside of Facebook?
Go to the Preferences section and use the Profile Options form to adjust your preferences--using the Preview button will provide you with the code needed to embed your Collection. You can also follow the <embed> links for each Collection from the Collections section, which will help you configure and preview your embed before providing you the code. What's a Services Token?
Think of it as a key that unlocks a specific one of your Collections. Until you provide one, we'll keep your Collection trapped and you will only be able to see it through the Flixville app in Facebook or through Flixville proper. But, if you provide one, we will let it be pulled elsewhere into the web, just as you can do with your Profile Collection. How do I create a Services Token?
Go to the Collections page and click the Pencil icon (Edit this Collection), then select the Preferences tab to edit that Collection's preferences and you will be able to enter the token there--10 characters, letters and numbers only. Other locations (<embed> links and Preferences) will sometimes prompt you to automatically generate one. How often does the Home page refresh?
As of now, friend data is live, so there is no delay in data refreshing. There is a background process that refreshes several other items on the Home page every 20 minutes, and internal caching that lasts 5 minutes, so the longest it will ever sit without refreshing will be about 25 minutes. That's not to say something always changes in that 25 minutes, just to say that the data is never older than 25 minutes. How often do the stats on the Video Details pages change?
As of now, about once each hour. Like the Home page statistics, that's not to say something always changes in that hour, just to say that the data is never older than one hour. Questions about Flixville Bugs and Fixes Mark Colley21 Desember 2007Signing up for new accounts was buggy today. Should be fixed now. Message me if otherwise. Mark Colley17 Desember 2007There was an issue earlier where trying to add Videos that didn't have a release date on record (odd, but it happens) would cause an error. This has been fixed. Mark Colley05 Desember 2007If you had been trying to view details for a Die Hard boxed set, I fixed the problem you were having. Mark Colley15 November 2007Now that Collections can be made public, there is a 'vs.' link next to any visible Collection (whether public or because you are friends, etc). The vs. screen shows your Collection against the Collection of someone else. The vs. screen can now be re-sorted as well, which can make similarities easier to spot or help to discover things you may not have noticed otherwise. Mark Colley31 Oktober 2007I turned on some Video Statistics that had been around before, but were too inefficient. I fixed... the glitch... There was also an issue where the Reviews options weren't showing up on the Video Details page, that should be fixed as well. Mark Colley29 Oktober 2007There was an issue where Facebook Users that hadn't added the Flixville app wouldn't be able to see a Collection they had permission to see (your friends would get an error if they tried to view your Collection, even if you had the Collection's visibility set to be visible to Friends). That was confusing to type, but the issue, I believe, is now resolved. Mark Colley28 Oktober 2007Earlier there was no "New Collection" button showing. I found the typo and corrected that. Also, I started populating the FAQ. If there are ideas on other things that belong there, please put them on the questions wall. Mark Colley27 Oktober 2007There was something nasty going on in the Flixville database when running the full statistics for a Video. This was not only making pages fail to load, it was beating the tar out of the db itself. I'll fix it, as the stats are one of my favorite features. Vertoon al 10 plasings. |
