Although this brash New Yorker is thoroughly modern and somewhat abrasive, he becomes fascinated by the 19th-century English woman who speaks through her. This oddball musical flicks back and forth between period flashbacks and modern times, which may be one reason it never builds up much power in either realm. On a Clear Day You Can See Forever failed at the box office in 1970, one of a number of glossy musicals that could not find an audience in the post-Easy Rider movie world. In fact, one of the film's out-of-place costars is Jack Nicholson, a symbol of the new movies that were making old-fashioned musicals a thing of the past. It didn't help that Paramount severely cut On a Clear Day before releasing it. For all that, the picture is enjoyable and--at the end--really quite touching. Director Vincente Minnelli (Meet Me in St. Louis), then near the close of a fabulous career, maintains his usual careful eye for color and design, and keeps Streisand relatively restrained--for Streisand, that is. --Robert Horton

If it wasn't for Barbra Streisand's amazing acting and singing abilities, this film would be a total doozie. She is like a doctor reviving a patient in regards to every scene she's in, and it doesn't help that the music in this musical is so displaced that one loses interest quickly. Yves Montand shouldn't have been casted as the psychiatrist, Bob Newhart shouldn't have played serious( because there was nothing funny about his seriousness), Jack Nicholson is barely there, but he is lovely to look at and a relief to see when we see him. Streisand keeps us interested and buoyant throughout this movie, and her characterization of Daisy Gamble, a woman with interesting ESP abilities and her contact to herself in a past life, British "tart" Melinda Tentrees gives dignity to this failed attempt as revitalizing the movie musical to the audiences at the time. It insults Vincente Minnelli's ability to direct. Still, Streisand is the only reason to see this movie, she is the only one "clear."
Jack Nicholson... I was like wtf is he doing here...
Watchable... nothing special... except the song... which I adore the lyrics of...
This movie still works, even today. But it helps if you lived through the '70s.
I've never been a fan of Babs, but I have to admit this was an entertaining movie musical and it has a beautiful soundtrack.
On the clearest day, you can't see past her fucking fugly face and that huge shnoz
the format went against everything Ron Hippe taught us in musical genre. i am confused.
Very fresh and clean. A little hard to get over Yves Montand's character was too serious for a musical. Thought the back-head comb over was rad. And of course, Ms. Streisand. Her voice makes me feel like I'm drowning in a tub of thick paint.
Kind of lame. Not all that interesting. The doctor's a jerk. Her fiancee's a jerk. At least she doesn't marry them... I really hope she goes and marries Jack Nicolson in the end. He was my favorite in the whole movie.
Barbra is absolutely charming in this silly but fun and colorful film. The movie seems very dated and Yves Montand is not at his best.
