Mark's journey brings us into contact with three other characters, each at the crossroads of their lives. George is a local motel owner who, until now, has avoided dealing with his emotions. Grace, a middle-aged woman recovering from a breakdown, has returned to her hometown in the mountains near Asheville to stay with her mother. Plagued by the desire to fill an emotional void, Grace embarks on a search for the child she secretly gave up for adoption when she was a teenager. Elizabeth has lived a fishbowl existence as the wife of a minister for 25 years in a small town in the foothills of the state. When her safe, sheltered neighborhood starts to change around her, Elizabeth must decide whether to stand by her conservative husband's beliefs or take a stand on her own.

A subject that is close to my heart, this movie was good and emotionally destructive.

It unfolds slowing until you're practically begging to know what's going to happen. It's got some really great human relatable characters, not caricatures. You're rooting for everyone to have a happy ending, all the while waiting for the other shoe to drop, you know it's not going to end well but you're hopeful none-the-less. It's about a mother trying to find the son she gave up for adoption--who happens to be gay and was placed with a preacher's family who basically runs him out of his home when he was 17. Bonnie Hunt, although naturally funny really breaks your heart in this movie. I wish she got more serious work as an actress. She does not need to play the goofy best friend anymore. See this movie with your mom!
Very beautiful, and sad. This movie is filled with symbolism and emotion. Loved it!
A great movie. Such a sad story, but Bonnie Hunt and the rest of the cast were amazing. It takes time to realize the full spectrum of the plot, and how the 3 stories connect, but its worth the wait.

It has a purity and warmth that underscores the value of taking your time and getting it right. Viewers may be put off by it's somewhat heavy handed approach, but the film is mostly saved by some wonderful performances.
I thought there was something sincere in this film. Very sad that two people missed out on the experience of one another due to the demands of others. Depressing though...
kind, pure and generous. i had never realized bonnie hunt had actually a depth as an actress. tess harper and kip pardue's eyes are just sublime... and often shot as julie christie's in doctor zhivago.
Three storylines and three years separate the main characters in this film, all battling loss and shame. This softspoken film delicately deals with the devastation of disease and death while shining a hopeful light on the dark realities of life.

Slow, unadorned, compassionate, and earnest, Loggerheads is a low-fi throwback to the independent films of the 1980s and '90s -- heartland miniatures hewn from plainspoken lives.full review
