Well, when those 5 films are The Godfather, The Godfather Part 2, Dog Day AFternoon, The Deer Hunter, and the Conversation, it's probably reasonable that people are interested in your career choices. Cazale was an actor's actor, a consummate professional who could express crushing vulnerability with a glance and slight expressions. This documentary takes the viewer through Cazale's claim to fame in Godfather, to his final role in the Deer Hunter, as well as his love affair with Meryl Streep that only ended in his death. Though rather brief, it works because Cazale's career was brief itself, and it gives you a portrait of an actor that likely would have continued to do outstanding work had cancer not claimed him at such a young age.

"I Knew It Was You" chronicles his life in testimonies from almost every actor and director of note he ever worked with to his closest friends and family. My only concern was that as an homage it never looks towards the negative aspects of his life, especially the concerns of his looks keeping him from other parts and typecasting which has always been associated with Cazale. Still, this is a charming film which should hopefully help people understand the life behind one of America's finest yet all to brief acting talents.
