The real harm done by this film is the regression of special and visual effects seen in the final product. After years of making disaster films, one would think Roland Emmerich would have perfected the genre. Wrong! His best film in this genre is "Independence Day", which also happens to be his first major film. "2012" is just another example of Emmerich's failure to meet, much less surpass the success of his 1996 classic.

Storyline leaves much to be desired, characters are far from captivating, and there is hardly any admirable characteristic worth noting in this review. Scenes were buildings are collapsing were cool, but to create such a montage would be, at best, 8 minutes of cinematic skill for a 2 hour and 40 minute sorry excuse for a film.

Absolutely fantastic visual effect that are worth seeing on the big screen.

Beware 2012, which works the dubious miracle of almost matching Transformers 2 for sheer, cynical, mind-numbing, time-wasting, money-draining, soul-sucking stupidity.

The effects are expensive-looking and impressive enough while you're watching them, although whatever awe they inspire doesn't last long: When you've seen one Washington Monument fall to bits, you've seen them all.

This is fun. 2012 delivers what it promises, and since no sentient being will buy a ticket expecting anything else, it will be, for its audiences, one of the most satisfactory films of the year.

2012's narrative is super-banal and so are its special effects.

Roland Emmerich has thrown everything imaginable at the screen in this mother (nature) of all destruction flicks.
