They of course each played in different versions of Kirusawa's classic Seven Samurai--Magnificent Seven being the American western version. So it's sort of an homage. Another unique aspect is the obviously international cast. The story isn't very satisfying in the end and seems like it borrows from Sergio Leone a bit too much without the pay off or the pay out form that matter!
