Terribly dry and boring. Plot Went NOWHERE. A huge waste of time and money.......

It's such a great topic to make a movie about, but the material was handled very poorly. For some reason, the jokes just weren't working for me. I smiled a few times, sure, but a lot of it seemed amateurish to me. The story is my biggest gripe, as it needed some serious work. It's handled mostly in flashbacks, narrated by Ewan McGregor, which is strange, mainly because he wasn't present at any of the events he's talking about. He only has George Clooney's word that these things happened, and he seems out of his mind. Although, I have to say, George Clooney did create an intriguing and strange character who made the film very watchable. Now, if the story had been solely based around this subplot, I feel the film would have been far superior to what we actually got. Instead, we got Ewan McGregor and George Clooney getting lost in the desert of Iraq and dealing with terrorists. Maybe. The movie was obviously trying to make a message after this scene, as both the Iraqi and Mr. Clooney apologize for their respective countries' behavior towards the other. It just seemed unnecessary and rather cheesy. In fact, the whole movie seemed that way, as the inclusion of the reporter makes us look down on all the characters, making them far harder to like. Basically, a movie without a beginning, middle, or end should probably not be made. Look over your script, find where the story is, and do a rewrite.
Hey,for those seeking REALITY,you may wanna watch this movie. It's being pubbed as a comedy, but I think alot can be LEARNED from this one!
Critic Reviews
Everyone involved seems to have had a pretty good time, but this one looks like it was more fun to make than it is to watch.full review
The film starts hopefully, drifts into the desert, ends up starved of point, pith and pattern.full review
There's no doubt we need more movies for grown-ups, with jokes that don't hit us over the head, but The Men Who Stare at Goats doesn't fit the bill. At best, it might hypnotize you into a stupor.full review
The yarn unravels without ever identifying its satirical targets. Is it a lampoon of peace-and-love mysticism? A critique of militant war-for-profit privateers? Ultimately, it's a shapeless wad of goat cheese.full review
This is the anti-Hurt Locker experience: Where that Iraq War film was absorbing and deadly serious, The Men Who Stare at Goats is irreverent and lighthearted.full review
It's hard to resist a satire, even when it wobbles, that insists the most unbelievable parts are the most true.full review
It actually doesn't matter if the book is truthful. It doesn't claim the paranormal powers are real. Ronson simply says some officials thought they might be -- and that if they were, we had to get there first. The movie is funny either way.full review
It's smugness -- unleavened by wit -- that makes Goats so offensive.full review
Clooney gives it everything, but what does he get in return? A void where the story is meant to be.full review
