Latest Sam Mendes comedy/drama with decent performances but lacking a bit in plot and purpose.

Away We Go has a realistic feel, even with the eccentric characters. It's not a perfect movie, but it has heart and I liked that.
Algo ñoña para mi gusto aunque con buenos momentos cómicos y dramáticos. (Lo mejor, la bso de Alexi Murdoch.)

For instance, couldn't stand the characters of "Lily" and "Lowell." My god, they annoyed me to no end. (I know they were supposed to, but geez! I just wanted their scenes to be over!) I really could've done without their entire sequence. They were so innapropriate and obnoxious it was almost embarrassing. The bit with Maggie Gyllenhaal and her ultra-extreme hippy ways were great. Especially when "Burt" wheels her child around throughout the house in the stroller. Hilarious! The serious scenes amidst the quirkyness of this movie really worked for me, as well. It brought a sort of realness to everything. I loved the scene on the trampoline when they're reciting their own unique, personal vows to one another. Thought that was very sweet and creative. The overall concept of this is great and certainly original, but I think I was hoping for just a bit more out of this film. I felt it could've been really great but there was just something missing, though I'm not entirely sure what. I think part of it was that I don't really like Maya Rudolph and didn't feel that she & John Krasinski completely connected in this movie. I would've preferred someone else in the lead female role. I will say though, John Krasinski was so great and I loved him in this. He also looked fantastic with the beard and glasses; definitely a look he should stick with. :) Oh, and awesome soundtrack by Alexi Murdoch as well.

The characters are pretty close to home for me and so I was drawn to them. I also really loved the concept and writing of the characters they encounter. The music and style could have been more developed and original, but all in all I finished the film with a feeling of contentment that my generation is beginning to be appreciated on screen.
"Away We Go" has a VERY funny script, great acting, familiar and relatable situations and a main character that reminds me of myself, in all the most embarrassing ways. Highly reccomended. Has a Garden State feel.

Their scenes together are grounded in subtle, intimate, realism, which makes for a sharp, yet interesting, contrast to some of the over the top performances (namely Gyllenhaal and Janney, who are excellent) of the people they visit throughout their journey.

Garbato, fastidiosamente carino, assolutamente innocuo.
