a fun little dark comedy to watch if you want a little laugh out of dry humor and Matthew Broderick looking like an old man. great cast, and a lot of dry-humor as well

(read more) Taylor Mendon (Matthew Broderick) is a tv scriptwriter in Los Angeles with a previous drug and alcohol problem, which has been replaced by a betting problem instead. He has as well problems at work since his focus is more on the betting than the actual writing. His beautiful wife Lorraine (Maura Tierney) knows about Taylors problems and she is trying to help him. Nevertheless, she is getting fed up with it because Taylor is not changing his behaviour. Suddenly Taylor and Lorraine finds out that their 20-year-old niece Amanda (Brittany Snow) has become a hooker in Las Vegas. Taylor promises to find her, bring her back, and pay for her stay at an expensive rehab center. Once in Nevada, Taylor starts gambling and drinking like there is no tomorrow with borrowed money from the casino. He also finds Taylor, a cheerful prostitute, uninterested in going to rehab or reforming. Taylor needs to face all his issues and try to convince Amanda to find a better lifestyle.
This is, well a piece of crap in my eyes. "Finding Amanda" struggles with not having been defined of what it really wants to be. It is some sort of strange mix of comedy with dramatic angles, but it is not working. It is boring, a waste of certain talent and as well a waste of time. And as I have recently mentioned, there are certain actors that have been repeating the same role the past 10 years, such as Samuel L. Jackson and Tommy Lee Jones. Matthew Broderick is definitely another one. Man.... what happend? The only joy I got out of "Finding Amanda" was to see Maura Tierney again. She is one of the most beautiful and talented women in Hollywood for sure.....
Another trainwreck of characters. Very funny in places, but also somewhat depressing overall. Pretty good character story, though. LOL... I guess I'm not really helping, am I? And Peter - wow - he can really, really play ANYthing. What an ass in this... (read more) Another trainwreck of characters. Very funny in places, but also somewhat depressing overall. Most scenes that (I guess) were meant to be funny failed miserably and made me more angry than amused. I have no idea who would (/could) enjoy this movie so my advise to all: DO NOT WATCH IT! I'm so mad I wasted a totally good movie night because of this piece of sh...

Nah, it didn't accomplish to get my attention from the start... somewhat interesting story but I think it could've been better
not awful, but not great. no real conclusion to the story. at least it was enjoyable while it was going on.

Not good. It's hard to see Matthew Broderick as someone other than Ferris Bueller. Brittany Snow was annoying!
Tries for black comedy, with a tone similar to Election; but like Election, fails to go anywhere, with Broderick once again playing a character destroying his life for no discernible reason.
Ni linda, ni divertida, ni graciosa, ni simpática, ni interpretaciones interesantes, ni... NADA!
Critic Reviews
Finding Amanda has some of the good and a lot of the bad aspects of a first film written and directed by the same person.full review
This cloying comedy is barely enlivened by its talented stars who both deserve much better.full review
A peculiar film, which is really two films fighting to occupy the same space.full review
It can be done -- there are rich, sordid black comedies out there -- but Tolan doesn't quite pull it off.full review
The film's tone shifts jarringly from superficial broad comedy to something far darker. And the hooker-with-a-heart-of-gold scenario is as old as the profession itself.full review
