The film's premise has been done many times before and has been done much better in other movies. But both Richard Gere and Diane Lane give competent performances and portray likable characters. I also admit that the two have good on-screen chemistry.
It's a good film to spend on a quiet evening with that special someone but it's instantly forgettable.
This is a love story for the older generation. The casting was great but I felt the storyline lacking in depth and the ending (predictably for a Nicholas Sparks storyline) was hollow. Yet another great Sparks novel that didn't translate well to movie. That being said it was worth watching at least once.
Gag! Come on! The saving grace was Mae Whitman as the daughter but other than that it sucked!
Very good romance film. About a Doctore who's spending the weekend on an island at a hotel being run by a divorced woman. It's a lot more then that, but saying anymore would give away the plot of the movie.

Despite Gere and Lane both being convincing and watchable this is too po-faced, too lacking in dramatic tension, and just too TV movie to have anything like the kick the ending might deserve. At best this is a diverting for your easy-to-please mum.
A nice easy going romantic. Diane Lane and Richard Gere played the characters so convincingly together. Without ruining it, I actually felt what she was going through....it was full of emotion and such a build up of love and anticipation. A good one ... (read more) A nice easy going romantic. Critic Reviews
Richard Gere suffers less than Diane Lane. He gets by with a mixture of skill and self-irony. She acts up a storm in every scene, but you root for the hurricane.full review
Though the stars are likable and attractive, the movie is a melodramatic and soppy affair.full review
The movie around Lane and Gere is unreal, a tortured construct, but they open a breathing space in its center.full review
The story needs rage and poetry and red-blooded sensuality, and we get respectable stodginess.full review
The movie attempts to jerk tears with one clunky device after another, in a plot that is a perfect storm of cliche and contrivance.full review
There's little room for genuine emotion in this turgid romantic fantasy adapted from a novel by slop-meister Nicholas Sparks.full review
