Based on true events, Tell Them Willie Boy Is Here, tells the story of one of the last Western manhunts, in 1909. Willie Boy, a Native American, kills his girlfriend's father in self defense, and the two go on the run, pursued by a search posse led by Sheriff Christopher Cooper.

Indian kills white man in self defense and is then pursued by a posse. The blacklisted director may be making a few parallels here to the Communist witch hunt that was HUAC, Polonsky's first directorial effort in 20 years.

Terrible Movie. The movie is one big chase seen with nothing happening until it's pitiful ending!
It's basically a Western chase film that openly serves liberal messages over the Indian-white conflict.
It's a really effective and interesting movie, on one hand offering a cat-and-mouse story, on the other hand showing the injustices Native Americans were faced with--even if those Native Americans are played by Robert Blake and Katharine Ross, of all... Redford showed he could carry a movie before he was paired up with Paul Newman for "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid", although his romance with Susan Clark doesn't really register with the rest of the film.
