From award-winning director Michael Mann (Heat, Collateral) comes the film inspired by one of the countrys most captivating and infamous outlaws John Dillinger.
Johnny Depp (Pirates of the Caribbean series) stars as the charismatic and elusive bank robber marked by the FBI as Americas first Public Enemy Number One. Academy Award® winner Marion Cotillard (La Vie en Rose) plays Billie Frechette, the only woman capable of capturing his heart. Hunted relentlessly by top FBI agent Melvin Purvis (Christian Bale, The Dark Knight), Dillinger engages in an escalating game of outrunning and outgunning the FBI, culminating in an explosive, legendary showdown. Its a landmark crime saga (Peter Travers, Rolling Stone).

A voir d'urgence.

I didn't feel that Christian Bale's FBI agent matched up to Depp's John Dillinger very well. All though i think that was more down to the director than actor. not bad but not a patch on Heat.
As much flack as it took, was a good movie and have to hope John Dillinger was actually that smart in real life and the movie hasnt made him out to be a total genius at times at escaping!
Watched this last week, not johnny at his best by a long way. There were no surprises, 6 / 10 and i am a big Depp fan.
Being a big fan of this era, and of the whole mob genre, this "Miami Vice meets The Untouchables" thing didn't really do it for me. Certainly worth seeing nonetheless.

It seemed as if the primary goal was to depict the time and the story was just pulled out of a hat. Iâm sure many will argue, but I didnât think too much of the Public Enemies other than the charisma of Depp as Dillinger. As for techs: exceptionally poor sound editing! Iâm sure the firearms were intentionally loud, but there wasnât a level of volume to find that would have the whispers audible and the gunfire tolerable.

He was obviously very popular with the public although it didnât explain why. Also donât know what the issue with the mafia was, he gets to Chicago and they canât do enough for him and then in what seems like the blink of an eye he becomes persona non grata. I can put two and two together why but think the disintegration of this relationship would have added another interesting element to the film. Nothing more than a two dimensional cops & robber s film.
Critic Reviews
Public Enemies is original because everyone, outlaw and enforcer, criminal and cop, looks and behaves the same.full review
The best rejoinder to Public Enemies is Michael Jackson's Smooth Criminal video... It's a tommy-gun gangster fantasia with a touch of Guys and Dolls, and it's everything Public Enemies isn't.full review
Mann not only lacks the narrative efficiency of old genre filmmaking, Public Enemies' look inspires the opposite of movie love.full review
It fits neatly on the shelf with Bonnie and Clyde and The Godfather.full review
Michael Mann's sharp-looking movie is a worthy vehicle for Depp, even if it doesn't break any new ground in the well-worn gangster genre.full review
Director Michael Mann has taken the story of John Dillinger, and has made from it a drama full of dread and atmosphere, a 140-minute film that in no way seems long, that's a succession of compelling scenes, with no dead wood.full review
Director Michael Mann mounts a technically proficient, visually enthralling crime drama anchored by the low-key but captivating performance of Johnny Depp as legendary bank robber John Dillinger.full review
The movie ends with a line of dialogue so startlingly inane that it leaves the picture flapping on the screen like a punctured balloon. It may be the most brutal moment in the whole movie.full review
Public Enemies has everything going for it except a reason and a script.full review
