Soul Men (2008)
Bernie Mac, Samuel L. Jackson, Sharon Leal, Adam Herschman, Sean Hayes ... (see more) , Affion Crockett , Mike Epps , Isaac Hayes
The late, great Bernie Mac and up-and-comer Samuel L. Jackson star in this comedy about two former backup soul singers back on the road. It's a bittersweet flick, though, as it's the last work Mr. Mac did before his passing in August.

very good movie for a "blues bros" fan. almost same plot, singers making a comeback, then cops are after them...yet there's a big difference with the twists in the movie, and they say m***f***r a lot. very enjoyable
It's a buddy-flick and a growing-old flick, but the back-and-forth between Bernie Mac and Samuel L. Jackson make this worth seeing.
I actually enjoyed this a lot for reason. The songs were good, and there were a lot of memorable scenes. It was a great little film
The battle over family values continues. Too much bad language which is described as witty comedy. If this was made for my junior high students to watch, shame on you. Guess the R rating is supposed to keep it away from young eyes, eh?

Much of the movie is funny, charming, teary eyed. That part, about family connections in the broadest sense, music history, the way the white musicians make the music theirs, with the original singers doing the lyrics, is wonderful. So guess Pepsi should go in and cut the dumb stuff as they have done for school viewing so I can recommend it. RIP Isacc Hayes and Bernie Mac. Samuel J. draws one into his character. Enjoy him. Check out Neuwirth's review. It is very good.
This movie has a lot of good music in it, some on the soundtrack, some on the screen. Jackson and Bernie Mac have enormous fun doing intricate dance moves together.
How is Samuel L. Jackson an up-and-comer? Hasn't he hit it pretty big by now?

...a sweet and occasionally funny, but over-amped and limply constructed comedy...full review
Soul Men has a lot to overcome in its effort to be funny. The pall over it can be ignored only intermittently, at least for the time being.full review
The only good reason to see the otherwise dismal comedy Soul Men is to have a look at the late actor and comedian Bernie Mac in one of his final screen roles.full review
Soul Men has soul, but expects too much of its charismatic stars.full review
Soul Men is a raucous, rambling comedy, offering some laughs, some groans and a feast for fans of the musical idioms it mocks and celebrates.
It doesn't sound like the likeliest pairing, but it works surprisingly well. Samuel L. Jackson and the late Bernie Mac make a winning duo in the bawdy buddy road-trip picture Soul Men.full review
Soul Men is a chance to salute these masters of mirth and music. Take it.full review
You want a good time? Soul Men will provide it. You want to say goodbye to Bernie Mac? He wants to say goodbye to you.full review
Soul Men is the most disappointing tribute to black pop music since the OutKast movie Idlewild.full review
