Having said that, being a film geek I am glad the films have been so successful on the festival circuit. I was lucky enough to have been---coincidentally---at two film festivals on opposite sides of the world when his last two films premiered: Mods at the Revelation Film Festival [around 03 or 04] and La France in Houston earlier this year. On both occasions, I was blown away by the films as well as by Serge's knowledge of the genres and styles with which he was playing. Serge's films are intelligent without becoming didactic. Yet they are also stylish without losing substance. This is a very rare thing in today's cinema---even in the so-called arthouse and festival scene.

Started pretty intriguing but falling off the edge a little right before the movie ends. I always find something interesting from French movie so 3 stars. The singing / musical bit is good cause those were no lip-synced.

While most would say there's an underlying message about the state of war, I think it's really about the bigger picture... I just have not really found it yet.
"I, the blind girl..."
One very surreal film. We really enjoyed it. See it when you're in the mood for something quirky, and don't expect it to make logical sense. See it when you're in the mood for something quirky, and don't expect it to make logical sense. I mean, a World War 1 drama with the key acts divided by quirky French pop musical interludes? Some might say hell no... but I said oh hell yes! Besides the ending coming much too swiftly to make any sort of rational sense, La France has more charm than your nanna's brooch.
