ABBA did some great music that was ahead of their time...so I was a bit curious....didn't have very high expectations...and I was right...lousy movie which didn't do any good to the songs

Will try to erase the memory of Pierce Brosnan and Meryl Streep singing ABBA
Hmm... What can I say about this movie? If it wasn't for the Abba music it would have been total crap. You can't help singing along even if the songs are done so poorly.

Why would you have a musical and then pick actors that can't sing? Pierce Brosnan was... so bad. So bad it wasn't even funny bad. I cringed every time he started singing.
There were the occasional funny moments, but I think I'll just stick to listening to my Abba cd's from now on.

Friday night and the lights are low, Looking out for the place to go, Where they play the right music, getting in the swing. You come to look for a king. Anybody could be that guy. Night is young and the music's high. With a bit of rock music, everything is fine. You're in the mood for a dance, And when you get the chance. You are the Dancing Queen, young and sweet, only seventeen. Dancing Queen, feel the beat, from the tambourine oh yeah. You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life. Ooo.. see that girl, watch that scene, diggin' the Dancing Queen !!! <3 <3
The cast definitely needs to keep their day jobs -- singing is not their forte. However, I have to admit I laughed hysterically at the closing credits. Who would ever imagine that particular group of actors in so many sequins? Great!
Love it. The music is undoubtly great, thanks to ABBA. Nice story, great actors, Seyfried and Baranski have amazing voice. Love the setting and the costumes. "Thank you for the music, for giving it to me..."

An absolutely hilarious, rousing and joyous celebration that ought to have you dancing in the aisles.full review
The legal definition of torture has been much aired in recent years, and I take Mamma Mia! to be a useful contribution to that debate.full review
If you're invited, you might as well enjoy yourself. Just don't say I didn't warn you. And don't you dare say I hate ABBA.full review
When Brosnan opens his mouth, the wrong sounds come out. And yet they're among the few things in Mamma Mia! that feel anything close to right.full review
There are the wall-to-wall songs by ABBA, if you like that sort of thing. I don't, not much.full review
The adaptation of the long-running stage hit is a crowd-pleasing gusher of escapism, not the least of which is respite from summertime teen action fare.full review
You can have a perfectly nice time watching this spirited adaptation of the popular stage musical and, once the hangover wears off, acknowledge just how bad it is.
When Streep, Walters and Baranski share the screen, Mamma Mia! comes alive and earns its exclamation point. The rest is forced gaiety pushed to the breaking point.full review
The new film version of the Broadway musical Mamma Mia! seems to be made by people who have no instinctive connection to pop music.full review
Streep has a sweet voice and knows how to use it, but it's sad to watch a perfectionist remove part of her brain and try to convince us she's having a jolly time.full review
