I thought this was an excellent film. The actors did a very good job of showing how cruel life can be at times.

What's funny is when I first read about this movie, I was like uggghhhh no. I just saw it and WOW! How a summary can be so wrong. Powerful film! A must see!

Maybe a little to arty for its own good. Also, what was up with the old guy pursuing his best friend's mom (and while the friend was in jail no less?)

I think everyone should see this movie - so they can get a taste of what it might feel like for those who have come to the USA... 11/20/2008

See, any people, even people of two extremities, can be sympathetic and willing to sacrifice to one another. That is humanity! This film is full of humanity!

This was a good movie with rather exceptional acting. It started off just a little slow, but about 20 minutes into it, the movie starts to fly by. Very good.

Otherwise, typical character development and a surprisingly weak performance from Richard Jenkins (the presence of which was a major impetus to see the film) keep it from getting beyond movie of the week territory. Making it worse is the director's insistence on obvious imagery, juxtaposing the glory connotated with America with the reality of its occasionally unfortunate immigration policies. These moments relegate it to obvious left-baiting politico-social commentary that never really goes anywhere or says anything. ** out've *****
