... Except for the fact that if Edward had burst into flames when he is on the sun at the begining of the story, the movie may had had a chance to be any good...
Why?, well in first place because VAMPIRES are supposed to be night creatures who should DIE with sunlight (unless they were really really REALLY powerful like our transylvanian friend) and in second place because Edward just plain SUCKS... not only as a vampire (that will be discussed later) but he sucks as a person, as an actor, as a character, as a human being.
"But he is soooo cute!" direhard fangirls may argue... girls, seriously, go look at your neares BF or any male friend (straight) and I think the 90% of them could easily give you a long list of the reasons why Edward is the most annoying main character the cinema has seen in ages.
And because any opinion must be backed up with facts, here is a quick list of reasons (at least the ones my brain still doesn't block)
First of all Edward is a FAKE, he is like a machine programmed to throw out cliché comments destined to impress the simple minded girls, comments that JERKS in real life have been used since forever to make girls think they are deep and caring with the final purpouse to get them in bed... from his attitude of "no, I dont want a night of passion with you.. even if I desire to... better let's just hold hands and lay down in bed to chat".. girls those are the phrases guys use when they want to SCORE BIG.. everything in Edward screams fakeness, from his makeup to his pseudoromantic lines used to death... basically he is the incarnation of the femenine cheap wet dream of the "bad and assasin guy who is tender on the inside and he is going to protect me with his life".. stereotype we know perfectly...
And if you tell me "well Edward can't loose control with Belle because he esa Vampire -duh!- and he doesn't want to hurt her".. well there is when it becomes evident the fact that Edward sucks as a Vampire, not only because of the completely lame fact he can go outside during the day (and not only that!, he sparkles like a rainbow butterfly!) but for the fact vampires are supposed to be some kind of cursed seduction machines and that's what they do!, they loose control and let themselves be carried by insctints and desires!!.. God compared to Edward even Louis (from interview with a Vampire) seems like a savage motherfucker.
It's frustraiting to see how vampires have been nerfed and came from being night creatures of sex, death and pleasure to some kind of "nice attitude Emos" who gets their clothes on the Vouge magazine catalogues... heck even their "battle poses" seems to have been rehersed on some fashion parade.
Edward suffers so much for his disgrace of being SO BEAUTIFUL (seriously, you have to see his suffering face ALL the movie) while Belle spends all the film in some kind of state of completely hornyness.. seriousle I have never seen in the history of cinema a female lead character who screamed I WANT SEX so much in such an intense way through her facial expressions and body language. Its clear that SO MANY of Edwards beauty provokes some kind of orgasmic effect on women... se surely sweats Aqua Velva.
The dialogues are chessy as hell and its tottaly obvios that they are focused on keep the girls sighing, the onscreen resouses are cheap (I.E. there is a scene with Edward an Belle coming to a Gazebo to get away from the crowd and the two couples who were romantically dancing in the place, misteriously decide to leave them alone at the same time)... vampire powers my ass..
If it had been a parody movie or they would have said thar Edward (and the culles) was some kind of Fairy/demigod/superheroe/fallen angel with identity problems AND they had NOT been so MANY clichés and cheap resources used in the story and to build up the romance between the main characters. Twilight may have had some worth, sadly its a clear example of how the current market buys anything supported by the critics (who in this case I really lost my faith in movie/book critics as Twilight is to Vampires what Eragon is to fantasy stories... completely vanilla and superficial)
The only thing worth rescue are the Washington sceneries, this guy Jacob (who seems to be the only guy with common sense there and he doesnt show up enough time to be ruined), maybe a soung in the soundrack and the fact that the actors did pretty well by avoiding laughing with the script.
Welcome to the era of the 21st century Vampire... Edward suffers more than Dawson and Lestat screams on pain from his grave...
the books are awesome, one of my favourite series, and the movie was a pretty good adaptation!! can't wait to watch this movie again... and for the sequels!
Petite déception... J'aurais peut-être du lire le livre avant, n'est-ce pas Dom ? :-) .....
I guess I'm becoming a teenager again, but I liked this movie...I'm a sucker for forbidden love -stories

This is a teen romantic drama with a slight fantasy twist. Vampires have fangs, burn up in sunlight (not sparkle, that was the most stupid thing about it), don't cast reflections, they are monsters and these guys aren't, even the "baddies" aren't.
For everyone who thinks this is a great vampire film, please please please go and watch some 'real' vampire films such as "The Lost Boys", "Near Dark", most of the "Dracula's", even cheesy 80's films, "Fright Night 1&2", please re-educate yourself on vampires, don't let this become the future of vampire cinema.
The one thing I did like was the casting of Peter Facinelli and making him blond. I've always thought he looks like Tom Cruise so if they were going to make more of "The Vampire Chronicles" following on from "Interview with the Vampire", he continue the role.
Not enough focus on the love of the central characters and the scene changes were sometimes jarring, but it made me smile.
What can I say...I love vampires and I'm a closet hopeless romantic.
This emo trend where vampires are not really monsters (morally speaking) by definition is pathetic. Vampires are supposed to kill people and drink their blood... not go out with high school girls and talk about their emotions.

In a way, I want to see the movie so I can more intelligently bash it. In another stronger way, I want to avoid it so I don't have to scrub the unclean feeling away with vast quantities of alcohol.
I hate this almost as much as I hate the books, & that's saying a lot. The cheesy dialogue translates badly on screen. I wince everytime they lament about how they can't live without each other.

There are also too many awkward scenes which are pointless & don't transit smoothly.
Stewart looks permanently trembly, & I don't get the hype about Pattinson as well. (Twi-hards are gonna stab me now.)
The only saving grace is an excellent OST, with contributions from Paramore & Muse.
Did not do justice to the books in any way, however, I thought it could have been a lot worse.
Critic Reviews
This is sexual-Gothic tripe of a high order. I am looking forward to the second instalment.full review
Twilight the movie is cautious, a sort of Tiger Beat-ified Twin Peaks. In its undercooked way, though, it's enjoyable.full review
It's a well-made but thematically flawed film based on a book that was ingenious in conceit but generically written. The strengths of one are the flaws of the other, and vice versa.full review
A hackneyed jumble of cuts and pastes from the book, blended with second-rate music video bits and third-rate visual effects, and finally undone by the fatal casting of Kristen Stewart as Bella.full review
Not that Twilight's fate hangs on intelligibility. It hangs on fangs that aren't bared, and on a bloodlust that isn't indulged.full review
...It's a fleeting reminder of how much dumb fun is missing from this oddly neutered neo-horror movie, and how little is being offered in its place. In "Twilight," the only characters drained dry are the vampires themselves.full review
Twilight is, by its very nature, all about unfinished business, the story of a brooding, caring romantic hero and the woman who cannot -- although she wants to -- yield to him. Only his eyes penetrate her. For now, that's enough.full review
My advice: Focus on Pattinson and Stewart. They make you understand why the books sold 17 million copies.full review
Gothic wooziness stifles many of Hardwicke's lighter impulses, such as her knack for jiving humor in scenes among friends and family. And some of the more cartoonishly gymnastic CG stunts look plain silly.full review
